The available record supports a profile of his public career and his own account of judging—not a definitive exposé or a verified account of his private life.
Who is Paul Hollywood?
Paul Hollywood is a baker, author and television presenter best known as a judge on The Great British Bake Off (GBBO). His official biography also lists television work beyond the British competition, including The Great American Baking Show and the food travelogue Paul Hollywood Eats Japan. His official biography presents those projects as part of a wider television and baking career.
His book Paul Hollywood’s British Baking was published in October 2014, according to the same biography. That is a documented publication date; current editions and regional availability are not established here.
How long has he been a Bake Off judge?
Channel 4 said in a 22 September 2016 announcement that Hollywood had judged the programme since its first series in 2010. That makes him part of the show from its beginning, rather than a judge who joined after its early years. Channel 4’s 2016 announcement records that tenure.

The official show page describes the competition as following bakers through ten episodes. That is the page’s format description, not a guarantee that every season has the same structure. The programme’s official “About the Show” page gives that overview.
What is his role in the announced 2026 lineup?
Channel 4 announced Nigella Lawson as a new judge on 26 January 2026. In a first-look announcement dated 16 August 2026, the broadcaster showed Lawson with Hollywood, Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding ahead of the new series. Those announcements establish the lineup for the series they describe; they do not establish who will judge in later seasons. Channel 4’s January announcement and its August first look provide the dated updates.
Why does Paul Hollywood give handshakes?
On the programme, a handshake is presented as a sign that a bake has impressed him exceptionally. Interviews describe the gesture in that spirit, but the sources cited here do not establish a formal, published rule governing when he must give one. It is best understood as a distinctive judging signal, not a guaranteed score or a measurable award.
How does Hollywood describe his judging style?
Hollywood has described his language as direct. In a TIME interview published on 19 September 2023, he said: “Sometimes my choice of words to describe what I’m looking at or tasting might be a little bit harsh. But I’m straight to the point.” That is his explanation of his own approach, not an independent assessment of how contestants or viewers experience it. TIME’s interview also records his view that the programme should retain a softer approach than shows that criticize contestants destructively.

In the same interview, TIME asked about criticism of a Mexican-themed episode. Hollywood replied, “Because there’s not a bad bone in Bake Off’s body.” He also said he had spoken with friends who were not offended and that the challenges came from a good place. These are his response and his account of intent; they do not establish that criticism was invalid, that no Mexican viewers objected, or that his view represented the audience.
What does he say about Bake Off’s influence?
In a Channel 4 interview, Hollywood said: “I know that, because I get messages from people all the time telling me they’ve got into baking because of Bake Off.” This is his account of messages he receives, not independently measured evidence of how many people took up baking. The Channel 4 interview provides the quotation.

What baking advice has he shared?
In the TIME interview, Hollywood recommended weighing ingredients carefully and having a good set of scales, describing accurate weighing as critical to baking. The practical point is about consistency in measurement; the interview does not amount to an endorsement of any particular scale. If you are choosing scales for baking, consider readability, units, tare function, cleaning and capacity, but no specific model is established as a winner by the cited sources.

The evidence here supports statements Hollywood has made in interviews about his work and judging, not a comprehensive picture of his private personality or life away from filming. Public speculation about his relationships or family should not be treated as verified biography without reliable corroboration. What can be stated confidently is narrower: he has remained a public-facing baker and television judge, and he has described his on-screen comments as direct.

Does “the truth” mean there is a documented scandal?
No specific hidden scandal or complete chronology of controversies is established by these sources. They document his career, programme tenure, dated lineup updates and his own comments, including a response to criticism of one episode. That is enough to describe his public role, but not to substantiate an exposé or turn speculation into fact.
