Warwick recounted the beginning of their connection in a 2023 interview with Dan’s Papers. She was appearing at the Sands Hotel in Las Vegas when her mother pointed out to Sinatra that he was lucky: he shared Warwick’s birthday. Warwick said the exchange “cemented a wonderful relationship with him.”

A 2018 CBS profile quotes Warwick describing the bond in familial terms: “Frank Sinatra, who I affectionately still refer to as Poppy, I became his surrogate child.” The phrase “surrogate child” conveys the kind of closeness she attributed to him: protective and parent-like rather than romantic.
Their bond in the Rat Pack and performance world
Warwick also remembered the Rat Pack treating her with affection, saying they spoiled her and that she loved every second of it. In a 2021 W Magazine interview, she recalled performing with Sinatra for Queen Elizabeth II in 1983. These memories place their relationship within a shared professional and social world, and support Warwick’s account of warmth and closeness. They do not establish a romance.
