Their own comments also show a more everyday dynamic: Andrea gives careful feedback, Matteo values his father’s judgment, and they tease each other. That is what the public record supports; it does not offer a complete view of their private family life.

Andrea has spoken about the pleasure of performing alongside his son. In a reflection on his official website, he wrote, “It is a great joy to be able to have my son next to me on stage.” The same account emphasizes that talent needs determination and hard work.

Matteo has described his father as someone from whom he can continue to learn. In a 2024 interview with Chilean broadcaster Mega, he called Andrea “una persona muy interesante” and said he had “un hambre de saber increíble”—in the context of the interview, an extremely curious person. Why “Fall On Me” matters to their story
“Fall On Me,” released in September 2018 on Andrea’s album Sì, made their relationship part of the song’s subject. Universal Music Canada described the duet as reflecting “the bond between parent and child.” Universal Music Canada’s announcement

In a CBS interview about the song, Andrea called it “a very honest and inspired song.” Matteo said, “It talks about the beautiful relation that I have with my father. And about the relation that many sons has with their parents.” He connected the duet not only to his own bond with Andrea but also to the broader relationship between parents and children. Matteo later described the song’s story as a son entering adulthood while a parent offers support and reassurance. In that sense, “Fall On Me” is a musical expression of the bond they have discussed publicly, rather than evidence on its own about every aspect of their family life.

Did Andrea expect Matteo to follow his career?
Matteo has said no. In a 2023 Q&A with Festival Napa Valley, he said, “There was never an expectation that we had to follow in my father’s footsteps.” He recalled growing up with many kinds of music and being encouraged to play and enjoy it, without an expectation that he would make music his profession. That account complicates the idea that Andrea simply directed his son into a musical career. Matteo’s own description is of a family that welcomed music, while leaving the choice of profession to him.

Support, performance, and criticism
Matteo has described Andrea as careful about how quickly he entered public performance. At first, Matteo sang at charity events and in small private settings; he later performed at the Colosseum in 2017. He has also said he still waits for his father’s critique after a performance. That points to a father who is involved and attentive to his son’s musical development, and to a son who takes his feedback seriously. It does not, by itself, establish that Matteo was pressured or that their relationship was strained.

They admire each other—and tease each other
A joint interview covered by Italian program Le Iene in 2019 showed affection alongside playful complaints. Matteo called Andrea “un padre esigente”—an exacting father. Andrea praised Matteo’s generosity and heart, while Matteo praised his father’s drive. Those remarks show candor and banter in one interview, not evidence of serious conflict. They also fit with Matteo’s account of seeking and valuing his father’s musical criticism.

Is another duet planned?
As of an interview published by Sky TG24 on 28 February 2026, Andrea said he would not refuse another duet with Matteo, depending on the situation and the song. He added that Matteo might say no. That is Andrea’s willingness to collaborate, not an announcement that a new recording is planned or a statement of Matteo’s current view. Sky TG24’s interview with Andrea
