Set in the fictional Tasmanian town of Evelyn Bay, it follows a new death that reopens an old tragedy involving two drownings and a missing girl.
What is The Survivors about?
Kieran Elliott returns to his hometown of Evelyn Bay with his young family, fifteen years after a tragedy changed the community. Two people drowned, and a young girl disappeared. When a young woman’s body is later found on the beach, the investigation brings old secrets and the unresolved disappearance back into view.
The series is a murder mystery with a strong family-drama thread. Showrunner Tony Ayres described it as “a family melodrama disguised as a murder mystery.” (Netflix Tudum)
Is The Survivors based on a book?
Yes. The series is adapted from The Survivors, a novel by Australian author Jane Harper. The novel and screen version are separate works; the premise above describes the series without revealing the mystery’s outcome.

Evelyn Bay is fictional, not a real Tasmanian town. It is an imagined coastal community shaped by places in Jane Harper’s imagination. Jane [Harper] made it up out of a number of different places.” (Netflix Tudum)
