Why did Cavill become Superman in 2013?
In a 2013 Vanity Fair interview, Cavill said he had previously been considered for a different version of Superman. He felt the timing of Man of Steel suited him better: “I had enough experience to do the role justice.” He also described the production’s demands, saying the shoot lasted six months and involved 15-hour days. Those figures describe the work he recalled for that film, not a general rule about movie productions.
His account frames the casting not as an overnight discovery, but as an opportunity that arrived after earlier experience. Once cast, he had to make the familiar hero feel credible in a new film; the scale of the role made that performance the turning point in his public profile.

How did Superman change his career?
Man of Steel put Cavill in the lead role of a major superhero film. He then appeared as Superman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Men’s Health reported a worldwide gross of $873 million for that film in 2019; this is a historical figure reported by that profile, not a current box-office update.
Cavill’s own view of the character was not simply about making Superman darker. In GQ’s 2021 interview, he said, “I really wanted to make sure that we saw the hero Superman,” describing his wish to establish the character as a hero and a symbol of hope before a darker story arc. That intention speaks to how he understood the role, rather than settling how every Superman story should be told.

From superhero lead to action-film ensemble
In 2018’s Mission: Impossible – Fallout, Cavill played August Walker opposite the franchise’s established lead, Tom Cruise. The 2018 The Witcher TV profile reported a worldwide gross of $791 million for the film. The figure belongs to that dated profile and is included here as a period-reported result, not as a comparison with television viewership.
A different kind of detective role
Cavill later played Sherlock Holmes in Enola Holmes, a supporting role in a story centered on Sherlock’s younger sister. The part shifted him from superhero and action-film roles into a familiar literary character within another franchise setting.

Why did Geralt in The Witcher become another signature role?
From 2019 to 2023, Cavill played Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s The Witcher. The role gave him a second high-profile character in a fantasy franchise, this time across a television series rather than a feature-film run. A 2018 profile from the fan site The Witcher TV reported that the series’ premiere reached 76 million households under Netflix’s then-used measure. That is a period claim from before the show’s completed run, not a current Netflix audience metric.
Cavill’s interest in the character and the source material was part of the public conversation around his casting. Men’s Health quoted producer Lauren Schmidt Hissrich describing him this way: “Henry carries himself with a lovely sense of authority and confidence.” It is her assessment of Cavill, not an independently measurable explanation for the show’s success.

What did Cavill say about returning to the Superman suit?
In 2022, Cavill reflected on putting the Superman suit on again and called the moment, “one of the top moments in my career,” as reported by TheWrap. The remark captures the personal importance he attached to the role after years of playing other prominent characters. It does not establish what future appearances he would make.
“Hollywood megastar” is a description of Cavill’s public profile, not a formal title. The verifiable career arc behind it is more specific: earlier film and television work, the 2013 Superman breakthrough, prominent parts in film franchises, and a later lead role as Geralt in a global streaming series.
