No. Cousins Beach is fictional. The Summer I Turned Pretty used Wilmington, North Carolina, and nearby beach communities as its real-world filming backdrop. Scenes were filmed across several places, so no single town or beach is Cousins Beach.
Where was The Summer I Turned Pretty filmed?
The series was filmed around Wilmington and the nearby North Carolina coast. The Wilmington and Beaches Convention and Visitors Bureau names downtown Wilmington, Carolina Beach, Kure Beach and Wrightsville Beach among the filming areas. Its September 2025 itinerary describes Wilmington as the “real-life backdrop for Cousins Beach.”
That distinction matters: Cousins Beach is the story’s setting, while the places below are real locations used to create it on screen.
Recognizable filming locations
- Carolina Beach Boardwalk: The boardwalk’s exterior appears in the series. According to Visit North Carolina, indoor arcade and go-kart scenes were filmed at Jungle Rapids Family Fun Park in Wilmington.
- Fort Fisher State Recreation Area, near Kure Beach: Visit North Carolina identifies it as a location for beach scenes. A biking scene with Belly and Cam was filmed near Fort Fisher Historic Site.
- Southport: The fictional “Entering Cousins Beach” sign was placed here. The sign is a piece of production dressing, not proof that Cousins Beach exists in Southport.
- Papercut Books, downtown Wilmington: The local film-location guide identifies the shop as the stand-in for Whale of a Tale Bookshop.
- Cape Fear Country Club, Wilmington: The guide identifies it as the stand-in for the Cousins Beach country club, but labels it “Exterior View Only.”
- Wrightsville Beach: One of the nearby beaches used in filming and part of the series’ broader coastal backdrop.

Can you visit the filming locations?
Some locations are public outdoor areas; others are businesses or private venues. Check current hours and visitor policies before making a trip, and do not assume a place welcomes visitors just because it appeared on screen. Cape Fear Country Club is specifically listed for exterior viewing only. The series’ fictional sign in Southport likewise marks a filming setup, not a permanent Cousins Beach attraction.
For a fan trip, use Wilmington as a practical starting point and treat the locations as a regional route rather than a single beach-town visit. The Wilmington and Beaches Convention and Visitors Bureau’s September 2025 itinerary includes a three-day plan and notes that Papercut Books carries Jenny Han’s novels.
