The Studio is a comedy about the gap between loving movies and running the business that makes them. Seth Rogen plays Matt Remick, a newly appointed studio head whose cinephile ideals collide with corporate demands, artistic relationships, rivalries and his own need for status. The series mocks Hollywood’s machinery without treating filmmaking itself as a joke.

What is The Studio about?

Matt Remick takes charge of the embattled fictional Continental Studios. He and his colleagues navigate artists, corporate leadership, personal insecurities and the challenge of making films they believe are worthwhile. Apple’s premise places the pressure of casting, marketing, awards campaigns, set visits and executive infighting alongside the creative work itself: any of those situations can become either a career triumph or a catastrophe. Apple’s official series page describes that balancing act.

Matt is central to the tension. His enthusiasm for movies is sincere, but he is neither an impartial critic of Hollywood nor a heroic outsider. He wants to make good films and to be seen as someone who makes good films; insecurity and ambition leave him participating in the compromises and status games he might prefer to rise above. That contradiction gives the satire more bite than a simple parade of industry absurdities.

What does the series satirize?

The business surrounding the movies

The jokes reach beyond boardrooms to the practical rituals through which films are cast, promoted and judged. Artists and executives depend on one another, but their ideas of success can differ: creative ambition has to contend with choices that a studio can defend commercially and politically. The comedy comes from watching people who care about movies try to manage those pressures—and their egos—at once.

A comedy that still loves movies

That tension keeps the show from reading as either a blanket attack on Hollywood or an uncritical celebration of it. In TIME’s review, the series is described as proudly episodic and affectionate toward movies, especially cinema outside the franchise model. That is TIME’s assessment, rather than a universal verdict; it points to a useful distinction in the show’s tone: its characters’ behavior can be ridiculous while their investment in filmmaking remains real.

Famous guests and weekly debacles

TIME also notes the role of famous guests in the show’s half-hour crises. Rather than making each episode one chapter in a single extended plot, the series often builds its comedy around a fresh professional calamity. Celebrity appearances add another layer to a story already preoccupied with status, access and the people orbiting a production.

Who stars in The Studio?

Seth Rogen stars as Matt Remick. The principal ensemble includes Catherine O’Hara, Kathryn Hahn, Ike Barinholtz and Chase Sui Wonders. Bryan Cranston, Keyla Monterroso Mejia and Dewayne Perkins were announced as recurring guest stars. Rogen co-created, writes, directs and executive-produces the series with Evan Goldberg; Peter Huyck, Alex Gregory and Frida Perez are also credited among its creators. The official Apple materials provide the cast and credits.

How many episodes are there, and when did they come out?

The first season has 10 episodes. Apple TV+ premiered the series globally on March 26, 2025, with two episodes available at launch and a new episode each Wednesday through May 21, 2025. Those dates describe the first season’s original release schedule, not a claim about current availability in every country. Apple’s announcement gives the schedule.

Where can you watch The Studio?

The Studio is an Apple TV+ series. Apple’s announcement identifies the service as its home; the cited materials do not establish availability or subscription terms for every region. Check Apple TV+ in your location for current access details.

Has The Studio been renewed?

Apple announced a second season on May 6, 2025. The announcement did not establish a premiere date. Rogen said, “We’re thrilled to be making a second season of ‘The Studio,’” while Apple TV+ head of programming Matt Cherniss said he was looking forward to seeing where Matt takes Continental Studios. Apple’s renewal announcement contains both statements.

How many Emmys did The Studio win?

The Studio won 13 awards at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards in 2025, including Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Lead Actor for Seth Rogen, Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series and Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series. Apple reported the total; the Associated Press also reported 13 wins in its Emmy coverage. After the series won best comedy, Rogen said, “I’m legitimately embarrassed by how happy this makes me.”
