The story centers on the relationship between 13 and the boy she tries to protect, set against her life inside a violent organization. Tjahjanto described 13’s inner life in a Netflix announcement on 23 October 2024: “The lead character 13 has an unexplainable trauma from her childhood suppressed inside her.” That is the director’s description of the character, not a line of dialogue from the film.
