Dheeraj Sarna on the film’s form
Director-writer Dheeraj Sarna said the filmmakers chose theatrical narrative arcs rather than a conventional documentary structure, and told the story through the perspective of broadcast media. He also said the film’s 2002–2007 timeline did not include the Nanavati Report, which he described as having been released in 2008–2009. These are the creators’ explanations of their choices, not independent verification of the film’s historical framing.
How was the film’s treatment of the incident received?
Reception has included both defenses of the film’s approach and criticism of its framing. In a November 2024 review, India Today identified the hierarchy between English-language and vernacular newsrooms as a major thread, while criticizing the film’s handling of context and its omissions. In their interview, Sarna and Kapoor said they expected mixed reactions and disputed claims that the film was propaganda.
