The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 3 is confirmed and scheduled to premiere on Prime Video on November 11, 2026. Amazon lists an eight-episode rollout across November 11, 18 and 25, so the old question of whether the series would be renewed has been settled; the current update is its release schedule and what the new season will cover.
When does The Rings of Power Season 3 come out?
Amazon’s current season guide schedules the premiere for November 11, 2026. Episodes one through four are due that day, episodes five and six on November 18, and episodes seven and eight on November 25. Amazon says the season will be exclusive to Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories. These are scheduled dates, not a guarantee that a future release plan cannot change. Amazon’s Season 3 guide was updated July 24, 2026.
| Episodes | Scheduled date |
|---|---|
| 1–4 | November 11, 2026 |
| 5–6 | November 18, 2026 |
| 7–8 | November 25, 2026 |
Has the series been renewed?
Yes. Prime Video officially confirmed Season 3 on February 13, 2025. At the time, the company said the season was in pre-production and would begin filming that spring at Shepperton Studios in the UK. That production update is distinct from the story’s timeline: the new season’s plot begins five years after the fall of Eregion. Amazon’s announcement is the source for the renewal and original production status.
What is Season 3 about?
Amazon’s synopsis describes Middle-earth five years after Eregion’s fall, with the land at war. Sauron is in Barad-dûr, pursuing power through the One Ring, while Khazad-dûm and the elven realms of Lindon and Rivendell are among the remaining pockets resisting him. This is the studio’s description of the season’s setup, rather than a full account of its plot. Read Amazon’s Season 3 overview.

Why does the five-year jump matter?
At San Diego Comic-Con 2026, co-showrunner Patrick McKay described the time jump as “pure advantage.” He said the new starting point could make Season 3 accessible even to viewers who have not seen the first two seasons, and give the storytelling “a jolt of adrenaline.” Those are McKay’s aims for the season, not a guarantee that viewers can follow every detail without the earlier episodes. GamesRadar+’s interview with McKay reports his comments.
