What is The Quarry about?
Nine teenage counselors are stranded at Hackett’s Quarry on the last day of summer camp. As the night unfolds, players investigate, make decisions and guide the counselors through danger. Those choices can change individual character outcomes, including whether a character lives or dies. Supermassive Games sums up the stakes this way: “Any character can be the star of the show – or die before daylight comes.”

The game’s appeal rests in part on its ensemble cast and cinematic presentation. Its featured performers include David Arquette, Ariel Winter, Justice Smith, Brenda Song, Lance Henriksen, Lin Shaye and Ted Raimi. The story is designed to branch around the player’s decisions rather than follow one unchanging path.
How does The Quarry play?
Expect a story-led rhythm of scenes, exploration, investigation, decisions and quick-time events (QTEs). Choices can have consequences for the counselors, so the interaction is not simply a matter of watching a film—but neither is this a game centered on sustained combat or precise action mechanics.

That balance is central to the buying decision. If you like discussing what a character should do and seeing how a group’s decisions shape a horror story, the format has a clear appeal. If you want continuous action, highly challenging QTEs or a tightly controlled single plot, its slower stretches and branching structure may be frustrating.
What do reviews say about the story and gameplay?
In a June 8, 2022 review, PC Gamer’s Jon Bailes gave The Quarry 70/100. Bailes praised its gripping horror story, characters, performances, production and high-stakes choices. He also found that some slow sections, exploration prompts and predictable QTEs could weaken tension. He noted that a character’s death can leave relationship arcs without satisfying closure. That is one critic’s assessment, not a cross-outlet consensus score.

Bailes’s review tested the PC version on a system with an RTX 2070, Intel i7-10750H and 16GB of RAM. Those specifications identify the review setup; they should not be treated as a performance verdict for every platform or current PC.

Death Rewind provides three opportunities per playthrough to reverse a playable character’s death. The developer says it normally unlocks after the first completion; Deluxe grants immediate access. The listed extras change access and presentation options, not the core story.

What should you check before buying?
- Match the listing to your platform: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S or Windows PC.
- If you want a disc, look for a physical console edition. The official Windows PC Standard Edition is digital through Steam, and Deluxe is digital-only.
- Choose Standard if you want the full game; choose Deluxe only if its additional modes, rewind access, filter pack or outfits matter to you.
- Check the current regional listing for format, edition and availability. Current prices, stock and regional bundles are not established here.
For a documentary-minded or film-oriented player, The Quarry is best approached as an interactive ensemble horror film: its cast, atmosphere and shared decisions are the draw, while the slower exploration and relatively forgiving QTEs may not satisfy someone looking for mechanically intense horror.
