Arya and Lyanna have a more everyday name feel; Sansa is brief and distinctive; Daenerys makes the strongest fantasy statement. “Prettiest” is a matter of taste, so the best choice depends on sound, spelling, and how closely you want the name tied to the series.
What are the prettiest Game of Thrones baby names?
These four names offer different styles rather than an objective ranking. Their fictional origins also matter: several were created by George R. R. Martin for characters in A Song of Ice and Fire, the book series adapted as Game of Thrones. Behind the Name identifies Arya, Lyanna, and Sansa as Martin-created names.
| Name | Style impression | Practical consideration | Association |
|---|---|---|---|
| Arya | Concise and modern-sounding | Pronunciation can vary; Behind the Name lists American and British pronunciations. | Strongly associated with Arya Stark, though it may feel less overtly fantastical than Daenerys. |
| Lyanna | Lyrical and soft | Its spelling may need repeating; the 2018 U.S. count grouped Lyanna with Lyana. | A Martin-created character name connected to Ned Stark’s family. |
| Sansa | Short and distinctive | Unfamiliarity may prompt questions about spelling or pronunciation. | Unmistakably literary and associated with Sansa Stark. |
| Daenerys | Dramatic and grand | Distinctive spelling and an explicit fantasy-world signal. | The clearest tie to the series among these four. |
Arya
Arya is a compact choice that can work outside a fantasy setting while still carrying a clear association with Arya Stark. Behind the Name gives American and British pronunciations; families may prefer one pronunciation over another, so it is worth saying the name aloud with the surname.
Lyanna
Lyanna has a flowing, three-syllable impression and a more traditional name shape than many names from the series. It is a fictional name created by Martin, not evidence of a settled traditional etymology. The 2018 U.S. baby-name figure combined Lyanna and Lyana, so it should not be read as a count for the Lyanna spelling alone.

Sansa
Sansa is brief, memorable, and strongly literary. The consulted name reference identifies it as an invented name for Sansa Stark; it does not establish an etymological meaning. Choose it for its sound and character association rather than relying on an unsupported definition.
Daenerys
Daenerys is an unmistakably dramatic choice. Behind the Name says no explanation of the name’s meaning is provided and describes its intended origin as presumably Valyrian. That uncertainty is important: a popular speculative translation should not be presented as established fact.

Is Khaleesi a baby name, or a title?
Khaleesi is a title associated with Daenerys, not her personal name. Its strong connection to the fictional world makes it a more overt franchise choice than Arya or Lyanna. Some U.S. families did use it as a baby name: TV Guide reported 560 girls named Khaleesi in 2018, based on Social Security Administration data. That historical count establishes use in that year, not whether the name will feel wearable to any particular family.

TV Guide’s May 10, 2019 report on Social Security Administration data gives a snapshot of U.S. use in 2018. These are historical counts, not current popularity rankings.

| Name as reported | U.S. babies in 2018 | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Arya | 2,545 girls; 49 boys | 2018 SSA data, reported by TV Guide in 2019. |
| Lyanna or Lyana | 351 babies | Spelling variants combined in the reported figure. |
| Daenerys or Daenarys | 171 babies | Spelling variants combined in the reported figure. |
| Khaleesi | 560 girls | 2018 SSA data, reported by TV Guide in 2019. |
TV Guide also reported 273 girls named Arya in 2010, compared with 2,545 in 2018. That timing is consistent with increased use during the show’s run, but the counts alone do not prove that the series caused the increase. No current 2025 or 2026 rank is established by these figures.

- Test the sound: Say the first and last name together, and ask family members to pronounce the name without coaching. Arya has more than one English pronunciation listed by the reference.
- Consider spelling: Arya, Lyanna, and Daenerys may need spelling explanations. Decide whether that is a minor inconvenience or a meaningful drawback for your family.
- Set your preferred level of fandom: Daenerys and Khaleesi signal the fantasy setting most directly. Arya or Lyanna may feel easier to separate from the story in everyday use.
- Check the meaning claim: Do not assume a familiar-looking name has the same origin or meaning as its fictional use. For Daenerys, the reference provides no explanation of meaning.
