The Oshi no Ko Season 2 finale is a weak ending to a strong season—not because Episode 24 is a bad episode, but because its biggest dramatic turn feels more like a handoff to what comes next than a culmination of what this season built. “Weak” is a critical judgment, not a documented consensus; the case rests on how the episode balances closure against a new mystery.
Spoiler warning: The discussion below reveals the end of the revenge arc, the discovery of Gorou’s body, Aqua and Akane’s unresolved relationship, and the new information Ruby receives.
What Episode 24 closes—and what it opens
The finale is officially titled Wish (願い), and its synopsis puts two different kinds of story movement side by side: the revenge is over and Gorou’s body has been found, while Aqua’s answer about his relationship with Akane remains a question and Ruby receives incident-related information from a mysterious girl. That is a consequential pivot. One of the series’ central engines reaches a milestone, but the episode also points toward a further investigation.
The official episode page credits Jin Tanaka with the script and Daisuke Hiramaki with episode direction. Those credits establish who made the episode, not whether its choices work. The critical issue is whether the shift from revenge to the next mystery feels like earned momentum or leaves too much of the season’s emotional business waiting for another installment.

Why the finale feels weaker than the season around it
A plot milestone is not automatically an emotional payoff
Ending the revenge arc matters, but a declaration that revenge is over is not by itself the same as showing what that ending costs Aqua, or what it changes in him. The finale’s official synopsis foregrounds the fact of completion and the discovery of Gorou’s body. The stronger ending would make the meaning of those developments—not just their place in the plot—feel like the season’s destination.
That distinction helps explain why the finale can feel weaker without being a failure on every level. The season’s best storytelling can draw force from the collision between public performance and private motive: a character’s work in entertainment becomes inseparable from the feelings and ambitions underneath it. When the finale turns quickly toward the next piece of information, the season’s accumulated tensions risk registering as setup for future events rather than as a shape that has just come together.

The season’s shape tilts toward a bridge
A finale can end one arc and still feel like a beginning. Here, the revenge is declared finished, but the discovery of Gorou’s body and Ruby’s new information immediately create fresh questions. That structure is useful for continuation; it also makes Episode 24 feel like a hinge between story phases rather than a decisive final statement about this one.
The tension is not that a continuing series must resolve everything. It is that a season finale needs to make its open door feel chosen rather than obligatory. The new mystery gives the story somewhere to go, but the episode’s closing emphasis leaves less room for the audience to sit with what the revenge arc’s conclusion means.

Aqua and Akane’s question competes with the larger pivot
The official synopsis specifically calls attention to Aqua’s answer about his relationship with Akane. That places a personal tension beside the larger plot turn, but the summary does not establish that the relationship reaches a satisfying resolution. In the episode’s overall design, the question can feel like another thread being held open while the plot redirects attention toward Ruby’s discovery.
Ruby’s reveal creates anticipation more readily than closure
Ruby receiving information from a mysterious girl is a clean hook: it promises that the incident still has consequences and gives the next stage of the story a point of entry. But a hook is not a substitute for payoff. Its effectiveness depends on whether the episode gives the reveal enough emotional and narrative weight to feel earned in its own right, rather than simply using a new question to propel the audience forward.

Is it a weak ending, a weak arc conclusion, or a bad episode?
Those are different judgments. The synopsis confirms that the revenge arc ends, but it cannot establish whether viewers experience that ending as emotionally satisfying. Nor can a plot summary settle how the episode’s pacing, performances, or scene emphasis land on screen. The fairest criticism is narrower: Episode 24’s structure favors transition and anticipation, so it works less convincingly as a season-level culmination than as a bridge into what follows.
That does not make the episode inherently bad. A finale may be compelling scene by scene and still leave a season’s larger emotional movement feeling underlined rather than completed. The weakness is one of emphasis: the new mystery has a clear forward pull, while the season’s central resolution receives less of a final pause.
