It adapts the graphic novel series created by writer Greg Rucka and illustrator Leandro Fernández. Is The Old Guard based on a comic?
Yes. It is based on Rucka and Fernández’s graphic novel series. Rucka wrote the source material and adapted the film’s screenplay; Fernández co-created and illustrated the series. The film is therefore an adaptation of a comics story, not a documentary or a true-story account. Skydance’s film page also identifies the source and describes the group’s powers drawing the attention of those who want to exploit them.
For readers who want to continue beyond the movie, the graphic novels are the direct route to the source material. The available information here does not establish a particular edition or current retailer listing.

How many households watched The Old Guard?
Netflix reported that 78 million households watched the film during its first four weeks of release. Is there a sequel to The Old Guard?
Yes. The Old Guard 2 continues the story, and Netflix’s July 2025 guide says it is streaming. The sequel picks up from the first film’s altered status quo: Andy is mortal, Nile has joined the team, Booker is in exile after his betrayal, and Quynh has returned. Victoria Mahoney directed the follow-up; Prince-Bythewood directed the original. Netflix’s sequel guide outlines the continuation.
