The real office used for Season 1 of the American The Office was at 3322 La Cienega Place in Los Angeles. Production moved to a Panorama City studio for Season 2, recreating the office there. The La Cienega property was reported for lease in January 2025, but its present tenant and use are not established by the available accounts.
Where was the real Dunder Mifflin office filmed?
Season 1 was filmed in a real office at 3322 La Cienega Place, in Los Angeles, near Culver City. It was a filming location, not an office in Scranton, Pennsylvania, where the sitcom is set. Culver On Film’s location report identifies the La Cienega property as the Season 1 office.
Why does the office look different later in the series?
For Season 2, production moved to a studio at 13927 Saticoy Street in Panorama City and recreated the Season 1 office layout. The Fan Atlas identifies the property as Chandler Valley Studios and says it supplied the later office interiors and the recurring exterior of fictional Scranton Business Park. The familiar later-season setting is therefore a studio location, not the La Cienega office. The Fan Atlas’s filming-location guide describes the studio as a private working property, not a public attraction.
| Location | Use in the show | Access |
|---|---|---|
| 3322 La Cienega Place, Los Angeles | Real office used for Season 1 | Private commercial building; do not assume interior access |
| 13927 Saticoy Street, Panorama City | Season 2 onward: recreated office interiors and recurring exterior | Private working studio; interior access is not allowed, according to The Fan Atlas |
What happened to the Season 1 building after filming?
Culver On Film reported in January 2025 that the La Cienega property was for lease. The location author said the gate was closed during visits and used publicly available interior photographs and a drone tour to map the space. By that account, the walls for Michael Scott’s office and the conference room had been removed. A wall that appeared open during filming was a kitchen wall in the building.

The same report said the warehouse door appeared to remain in use and that the warehouse “looks like” it was being used as a sound stage. That is the author’s impression, not a confirmed statement from an owner or occupant. The available accounts do not identify the property’s present tenant or establish whether its use changed after the January 2025 lease report.

3322 La Cienega Place is described as a private commercial building, not a studio open for tours. The Fan Atlas identifies the parking lot as the notable publicly accessible location; that does not mean visitors can enter the building. The location author also reported that the gate was closed during visits. Respect the property and verify access directly rather than expecting an interior tour.
Fans looking for a separate, show-related trip can use the Lackawanna County visitor guide’s self-guided Scranton tour. Its locations are in Scranton, Pennsylvania—not at the Los Angeles filming sites.
