John Hannah is the “another original cast member” in the latest return report: he is expected to reprise Jonathan Carnahan, Evelyn’s brother. ComicBook.com reported the news on March 28, 2026, attributing the confirmation to The Hollywood Reporter. That report followed earlier news that Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz would return as Rick O’Connell and Evelyn Carnahan.
Which original cast members are reported to return?
The forthcoming fourth Mummy film is commonly called The Mummy 4 in coverage, but an official title had not been announced in the February 2026 report from The Independent.
- Brendan Fraser is reported to return as Rick O’Connell.
- Rachel Weisz is reported to return as Evelyn Carnahan.
- John Hannah is reported to return as Jonathan Carnahan, Evelyn’s brother. ComicBook.com’s March 28, 2026 report attributes this casting confirmation to The Hollywood Reporter. ComicBook.com
A Los40 report updated September 17, 2026 also lists Kevin J. O’Connor and Oded Fehr among the returning cast. That is a report of their involvement, not a direct Universal announcement. Los40
What is the current reported release date?
The schedule has shifted in the reports reviewed. The Independent previously reported May 19, 2028 as the film’s scheduled release date. Los40’s September 17, 2026 update later reported that Universal had moved the date to October 15, 2027. The later date is the most recent one in those reports; it has not been independently verified here against a primary Universal announcement. Release schedules can change.

How does the 2008 film fit into the story?
The directors, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, were reported by The Independent to say that The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008) would not be canon to the forthcoming film. That statement offers a limited explanation for Weisz’s return as Evelyn, since she did not appear in the 2008 installment; it does not establish other continuity details.
The Independent quoted Bettinelli-Olpin saying, “Well, Rachel is in this one,” with Gillett adding, “That should answer the question for you.” The Independent
