There is no official ranking of wrestling’s most iconic mustaches, and the available career records do not establish a defensible, fully sourced top ten. A mustache can be part of a wrestler’s visual identity without being the reason for their fame. On the evidence available here, Hulk Hogan, Dusty Rhodes and Freddie Blassie are the strongest candidates to discuss; Hillbilly Jim is a useful reminder that a celebrated facial-hair look is not always a mustache.
How to judge an “iconic” wrestling mustache
For this feature, “iconic” means a look that is recognizable, fits the wrestler’s character, remains associated with them over time and reaches beyond a single appearance or promotion. Those are editorial criteria, not measured scores. The order below is subjective, and the documented career milestones establish the wrestlers’ prominence more firmly than they establish any mustache-specific reputation.
Three strong candidates
Hulk Hogan
Hogan’s mustache was one element of a larger, highly recognizable presentation. The Associated Press describes him bellowing in red-and-yellow attire in sold-out arenas during the 1980s and later decades, and credits performers such as Hogan with helping WWE enter mainstream culture. That context makes him a compelling candidate for a feature about wrestling’s memorable looks, but it does not amount to a sourced ranking of his mustache.
His match with the Ultimate Warrior at WrestleMania VI, billed as “The Ultimate Challenge,” drew 67,678 fans to Toronto’s SkyDome in 1990, according to the AP’s 2025 career overview. That figure is attendance—not a measure of the mustache’s popularity or recognition. Read the Associated Press overview of Hogan’s career.

Dusty Rhodes
Rhodes’s facial hair belonged to a broader persona built around charisma, microphone work and a story that connected with audiences. WWE calls him a major draw in the territory era and records three reigns as NWA World Heavyweight Champion; it also lists his 2007 WWE Hall of Fame induction. The National Wrestling Hall of Fame profile records his 1967 professional debut and work in the AWA, WWF and NWA territories. These credentials explain why his look remains part of a discussion of wrestling presentation, but neither profile ranks his mustache.
WWE attributes this line to Rhodes: “I have wined and dined with kings and queens, and I’ve slept in alleys and dined on pork and beans.” The profile connects the line to his ability to sell his rags-to-riches story. See WWE’s Dusty Rhodes biography and the National Wrestling Hall of Fame profile.

Freddie Blassie
Blassie made his appearance work at ringside as well as in the ring. WWE describes a career spanning wrestling and managing, calls him the “Hollywood Fashion Plate,” and notes his conspicuous outfits and 1994 WWE Hall of Fame induction. He managed several notable wrestlers, including Hulk Hogan for a short period. That flamboyant presentation makes him a plausible choice for a list focused on memorable wrestling silhouettes, though WWE’s biography documents his persona and career—not a mustache accolade.
Blassie also appeared on Raw in May 2003 to promote his autobiography, Listen, You Pencil Neck Geeks. Read WWE’s Freddie Blassie biography.

Why Hillbilly Jim is a useful comparison, not a mustache pick
Hillbilly Jim’s country-themed presentation included a shaggy beard, bib overalls and a horseshoe-chain necklace. WWE describes him as a crowd favorite and records his 2018 Hall of Fame induction, but its biography identifies a beard rather than a mustache. Including him in a mustache ranking without a carefully chosen image and accurate description would blur the distinction the title asks readers to make. WWE’s Hillbilly Jim biography supports his place in a discussion of distinctive wrestling looks, not a claim that his beard was a mustache.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why this is not a sourced top ten
A genuine ten-person ranking needs reliable evidence for each candidate’s appearance and career context, plus a clear basis for comparing them. The sources cited here provide strong career context for Hogan, Rhodes and Blassie, and clarify Hillbilly Jim’s beard; they do not establish seven additional mustache candidates or compare recognition across wrestlers. No published statistic measuring mustache recognition, popularity or iconicity is established here, so assigning numerical scores or presenting a definitive order would imply evidence that does not exist.

One fan discussion asks, “Who has/had the best mustache in wrestling?” That is an example of the question fans ask, not an authoritative poll or historical record. A broader list can be an entertaining matter of taste, but it should be presented as a fan-driven selection and supported with candidate-specific visual and historical sourcing.
