Henry Aldridge & Son currently identifies Isidor Straus’s gold pocket watch as its record Titanic memorabilia sale, at £1.78 million. That is an auction house’s stated record, not a verified market-wide ranking: available reports use different currencies, sale years and buyer-fee conventions. The examples below are therefore notable high-value sales, not a definitive top ten, and prices are nominal—not adjusted for inflation.
What is the most expensive Titanic memorabilia ever sold at auction?
Henry Aldridge & Son’s current Titanic department page names the gold pocket watch associated with Isidor Straus as its highest Titanic memorabilia sale, at £1.78 million. The page does not say whether that figure includes the buyer’s premium. Treat it as the auction house’s reported record, rather than an independently audited record for every auction market.
Among the other standout results, Sir Arthur Rostron’s watch sold for £1.56 million in November 2024. The Associated Press says that price includes taxes and fees paid by the buyer. A lifejacket associated with survivor Laura Mabel Francatelli brought £670,000 in April 2026; AP reported the equivalent as $906,000 and said the price includes buyer’s premium.
There is no consistently defined, comprehensive ranking behind a precise “top ten.” The figures below retain their reported currencies and fee details; they are not converted into a common currency or adjusted for inflation.

Which Titanic artifacts sold for the most?
This sourced selection covers watches, a violin, survivor-associated safety equipment, onboard documents and a ship furnishing. The figures are not directly interchangeable: some sources specify buyer charges, some do not, and several historic results are reported in dollars rather than pounds.
| Item | Reported sale | Source and price basis |
|---|---|---|
| Isidor Straus’s gold pocket watch | £1.78 million | Henry Aldridge & Son’s current department page calls it the firm’s highest Titanic memorabilia sale; fee basis not stated. |

| John Jacob Astor’s pocket watch | £1.17 million | Associated Press reported this as the prior record in 2024; Henry Aldridge & Son also lists a £1.17 million result. |
| Wallace Hartley’s violin | £900,000 | Henry Aldridge & Son’s 2026 retrospective gives this amount for an October 2013 sale; fee basis not stated. A separate SEC-filed appraisal reports $1,867,932 and dates its cited sale to 2014. |
| Laura Mabel Francatelli’s lifejacket | £670,000 ($906,000) | Associated Press, April 2026; includes buyer’s premium. |

How much did the Titanic violin, watches and lifejacket sell for?
Watches: Straus, Rostron and Astor
The reported figures for the three watches are £1.78 million for Straus’s, £1.56 million for Rostron’s and £1.17 million for Astor’s. Their significance is tied to the people connected with them, but their sale prices do not all share a published fee basis. AP reported that Rostron’s watch went to a US private collector in November 2024 and that its total includes buyer-paid taxes and fees. Three women survivors presented the watch to the Carpathia’s captain.

Hartley’s violin: conflicting reported figures
Henry Aldridge & Son’s 2026 retrospective states that Wallace Hartley’s violin sold for £900,000 in October 2013. The SEC-filed appraisal instead gives $1,867,932 and dates its cited sale to 2014. The sources do not explain how those records relate, so the two amounts should not be combined or presented as a single normalized sale price. Titanic Belfast describes the violin and its inscription.
Francatelli’s lifejacket and the lifeboat cushion
AP reported the lifejacket’s £670,000 result and the seat cushion’s £390,000 result at the same April 2026 auction, with buyer’s premium included in both. The jacket was signed by Francatelli and other survivors from her lifeboat. AP described it as the only lifejacket from a Titanic survivor ever sold at auction; that does not mean it is the only surviving Titanic lifejacket. Titanic Belfast says its collection includes an original and describes twelve as remaining worldwide.

Why provenance matters to Titanic auction prices
“Titanic memorabilia” is not limited to material recovered from the wreck. These sale records include passenger possessions, letters and menus written or carried aboard, a musician’s violin, survivor-linked safety equipment, a lifeboat cushion and a deck chair. The strength and specificity of an object’s connection to the ship and named people matter when assessing what a sale record establishes.
Henry Aldridge & Son says its team traces ownership and compares historical records and photographs. Its managing director, Andrew Aldridge, said: “Due diligence is absolutely vital, provenance is the byword with these objects.” That describes the auction house’s approach; an auction-house attribution should still be read as attributed reporting, not independent authentication.

How to compare the reported prices
- Check the fee basis. AP specifies buyer charges for the Rostron watch and the 2026 lifejacket and cushion. Henry Aldridge & Son’s page explicitly labels some other highlights “plus Buyers Premium,” while the Straus watch entry does not state its fee basis.
- Keep currencies and dates attached. A 2014 dollar appraisal and a 2026 pound result are not like-for-like measures. No common exchange-rate date or inflation adjustment is applied here.
- Read record claims narrowly. “Highest” on an auction house’s department page describes that firm’s reported record, not necessarily a complete cross-market ranking.
- Distinguish similar objects and categories. The second-class menu is not the first-class last-lunch menu; Titanic Belfast reports an approximate purchase figure of $122,000 for the latter. The two deck-chair sales also refer to different lots.
Other Henry Aldridge & Son highlights include a Titanic plan at £220,000 plus buyer’s premium; an April 14 menu and lamp-trimmer storeroom keys at £140,000 plus buyer’s premium; an April 2 menu at £101,000 plus buyer’s premium; a walking cane at £100,000 plus buyer’s premium; and a letter at £126,000 plus buyer’s premium. The page does not supply enough sale-date and comparison detail to place all of these into a defensible cross-market top ten.
