In The Midnight Walk, you play as the Burnt One and meet Potboy, a lost lantern creature. The official description frames the adventure as a journey through five tales of fire and darkness in a handcrafted fantasy world. PlayStation Blog has described that world as “cozy horror”—a useful characterization of its mix of eerie imagery and inviting fantasy, rather than a formal genre label.

Why does it bring Tim Burton to mind?
The comparison is most readily explained by the game’s visual style: its unusual shapes and handcrafted, stop-motion presentation can evoke the kind of dark whimsy many viewers associate with Burton’s films. MoonHood says that “every asset in the game was first sculpted in clay before being 3D-scanned into the game and animated in a stop motion style!” The statement appears in the developer’s official announcement, which does not attribute it to a named speaker.
That production method makes the comparison a description of appearance, not evidence of an official connection to Burton or his films.

Potboy’s flame is more than a visual guide. It lights the way through dark areas and can distract monsters, giving the Burnt One an opportunity to hide or evade them. The pairing of navigation and danger gives the lantern companion a practical role in the adventure, not just a place in its story.

Which version should you choose?
Choose based on where you want to play and whether you want VR. PlayStation explicitly supports both flatscreen PS5 play and PS VR2; Steam describes gamepad and VR play on PC. VR is an option, not a stated requirement. Compare the current platform listings in your region before buying, especially if you are choosing between VR and standard display play.
