In The Masked Singer Season 12, Episode 3, “Group A Finals: Soundtrack of My Life,” Woodpecker and Ship were unmasked on October 9, 2024. Woodpecker was actress Marsai Martin, Ship was singer-songwriter Paula Cole, and Buffalo advanced to the quarter-finals. This is the Group A double elimination—not the season’s only one.
Who was unmasked in the Group A Finals?
The episode brought the three remaining Group A finalists—Buffalo, Woodpecker, and Ship—to the stage. Woodpecker was revealed as Marsai Martin, while Ship was revealed as Paula Cole. Buffalo survived the double elimination and moved on to the quarter-finals. TV Insider’s October 9 recap identifies the two singers; Just Jared’s episode recap reports the Group A outcome.
What did Paula Cole sing, and what did she say the song means?
As Ship, Cole performed “I Don’t Want to Wait,” the song widely associated with Dawson’s Creek. In a post-episode interview with TV Insider, she explained that she wrote it for her grandfather, who returned from the Battle of Okinawa in World War II with PTSD. Cole said that his experience affected her family and that the song is about generational trauma and wanting to do better. TV Insider’s interview and recap includes her account.
Why this recap specifies Episode 3
“Double elimination” does not identify just one Season 12 episode. Episode 3 was the Group A Finals, titled “Soundtrack of My Life,” and aired October 9, 2024. A later Group B Finals episode was also billed as a double-elimination night: LiveNOW from FOX reported that Bluebell was revealed as Natalie Imbruglia on November 6, while the panel used the Ding Dong Keep It On Bell to save Goo. The episode number, group, and title distinguish the Woodpecker and Ship reveals from that later event.

Season 12 cast and format
FOX’s Season 12 premiere announcement named Nick Cannon as host and Ken Jeong, Rita Ora, Robin Thicke, and Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg as panelists. It described a season featuring fifteen masked singers and celebrity Masked Ambassadors—former contestants connected to current singers who offered clues. These are season-wide details, rather than elements unique to the Group A Finals. FOX’s Season 12 announcement outlines the format.
