Mindscape and Aesir Interactive announced Windstorm: The Legend of Khiimori in May 2024 as an open-world adventure about a courier rider in 13th-century Mongolia. The game is now listed on Steam as The Legend of Khiimori, with Early Access beginning March 3, 2026. Its original September 2024 target is no longer current.
What is The Legend of Khiimori?
The Legend of Khiimori is an adventure and simulation game built around riding horses across a broad Mongolian landscape. Players take the role of a young courier carrying out missions, with route choices shaped by varied terrain and the demands of travel and survival.
The project was announced by Mindscape and Aesir Interactive on May 7, 2024 under the longer title Windstorm: The Legend of Khiimori. The current Steam listing uses The Legend of Khiimori and identifies Aesir Interactive and NightinGames as developers, with Mindscape as publisher. Steam’s current listing describes it as an Early Access adventure/simulation.
How do horses and the setting shape the game?
Horses are more than transportation in the announced design: Mindscape described them as essential to survival and safety. The game’s central systems include taming, breeding and training horses, with specialized abilities intended to matter on difficult journeys. Players are also expected to plan routes across different biomes and complete courier missions.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The announcement also described developing a nomad camp, including yurts, items and resources. Together, these elements frame the game as a mix of exploration, horse simulation and survival pressures rather than a purely narrative horseback adventure. These are features described by the publishers; they should not be read as independent verification of realism or historical accuracy.
When did it enter Early Access, and what happened to the original date?
The May 2024 announcement targeted Steam Early Access for September 2024. That date was subsequently superseded: Mindscape’s April 2025 update described a Summer 2025 target, and the current Steam listing records Early Access as beginning on March 3, 2026. The title shown on Steam is now The Legend of Khiimori.

The publisher said campaign stretch goals added biomes, horse and character customization, exotic horse breeds and a Peaceful Mode. Its accompanying Summer 2025 Early Access and 2026 console timing were plans stated at that time, not a current confirmation of console availability.
What does the developer say is planned for the full version?

The choice depends on whether an unfinished build suits you. The current version is in Early Access, while the Steam page lists substantial additions for the full release. Players drawn to horse training, route planning, exploration and survival can consider the current build on those terms; those looking for the completed main story, broader world or planned localization may prefer to wait. Neither the approximate Early Access duration nor the planned features establish a firm completion date.
