Parts 1–6 follow the original line from Jonathan Joestar through Joseph, Holy, Jotaro and Jolyne, with important branches through Joseph’s other relationships. Parts 7 onward use a separate family history centered on Johnny Joestar. Keep those trees apart: Part 4’s Josuke and Part 8’s Josuke are different characters with different family connections.
Original continuity: Parts 1–6
The clearest way to follow the original continuity is to start with its direct-descent line. Other relationships—including marriage, adoption and Joseph’s extramarital son—branch away from it rather than continuing the same chain.
The direct Joestar line
Jonathan Joestar → George Joestar II → Joseph Joestar → Holy Kujo → Jotaro Kujo → Jolyne Cujoh.
The surnames change along this line: Holy and Jotaro are Kujo, while Jolyne is Cujoh. Those names reflect family relationships and do not break their descent from the Joestars.

Joseph’s family and branches
- Holy Kujo: Joseph’s daughter with his wife, Suzi Q. Holy is Jotaro’s mother.
- Josuke Higashikata (Part 4): Joseph’s son with Tomoko Higashikata, from an extramarital relationship. Josuke is Joseph’s son, not Jotaro’s son, so he forms a branch from Joseph’s generation.
- Shizuka Joestar: Joseph and Suzi Q adopt her. Her place in the family is by adoption, not biological descent.
Dio and Giorno’s unusual connection
Dio Brando is adopted into the Joestar household and becomes Jonathan’s rival. That household connection is separate from the later parentage of Giorno Giovanna: Dio fathers Giorno using Jonathan’s body. Giorno is therefore connected to the Joestar story in an unusual way, not as the next descendant in the Jonathan-to-Joseph line.
A separate continuity: Parts 7 onward
Steel Ball Run and the later continuity have their own Joestar family tree. Do not draw a continuous descent from Jonathan through Johnny Joestar to Part 8’s Josuke; the family-tree reference treats these as distinct continuities.
Johnny Joestar and the Higashikata family
Johnny Joestar is a central ancestor in this separate tree and marries Rina Higashikata. The Part 8 family relationships bring the Joestar, Higashikata and Kira lines into the same picture, but not every connection in that picture is an ordinary parent-to-child link.
Josuke Higashikata (Part 8)
Part 8’s Josuke is not Part 4’s Josuke. The Part 8 tree represents Josuke through a fusion or rebirth relationship involving the Kira and Higashikata family lines. That notation signals a more complex origin than a simple direct-descent arrow; it should not be read as though he were merely another child in the Jonathan-to-Jolyne chain.
Shueisha’s listing for JoJolion Volume 3 includes chapter #011, titled “Family Tree” (家系図). The chapter offers an in-story reference point for the Part 8 genealogy. Shueisha’s Volume 6 synopsis also mentions Johnny Joestar’s strange death in Morioh and Yasuho’s attempt to tell Josuke, but that plot detail is not a substitute for the family relationships shown in the tree. The cited genealogy is a fan-maintained reference; Shueisha’s volume listings establish the chapter and plot context, not every edge in that diagram.

A useful family tree needs to distinguish the kind of connection being shown. Treat the labels and lines as relationship types, not as interchangeable evidence of biological descent.
Rank #4
- Dio's evil escalates as he gains vampire immortality and immense strength
- Moral showdown: courage and resolve clash with might and pride
- The outcome is uncertain: who will emerge victorious?
- Recommended for mature teen readers
- Direct descent: A parent-child link along a biological line, such as the original continuity’s Jonathan-to-Joseph-to-Holy branch.
- Marriage: A spouse connection, such as Johnny Joestar and Rina Higashikata, or Joseph Joestar and Suzi Q. Marriage does not by itself make one spouse a biological descendant of the other’s family.
- Adoption: Dio’s place in the Joestar household and Joseph and Suzi Q’s adoption of Shizuka are different from biological parentage.
- Extramarital parentage: Joseph’s relationship with Tomoko connects Part 4’s Josuke to Joseph without making Josuke a child of Joseph’s marriage to Suzi Q.
- Fusion or rebirth: The Part 8 tree uses this kind of relationship for Josuke. It should not be simplified into a standard parent-child arrow.
Because the original and later continuities use different family histories—and because the trees include several kinds of connection—a single unbroken Joestar line can be misleading. Start by identifying the continuity, then follow each branch according to whether the connection is descent, marriage, adoption, extramarital parentage or fusion/rebirth.
