Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton were childhood friends long before either became a reality-TV star. Hilton’s reported 2008 insult and apology became part of the public story, but the available accounts do not prove it alone caused a rift. The two were publicly reunited by 2014, and later appearances showed signs of warmth—not proof of their private relationship today.
How their friendship began
Kardashian has said she and Hilton had known each other since childhood. Before Kardashian was widely recognized, she ran a closet-organizing business and worked for Hilton, helping organize and clear out closets. Their connection was not just a later celebrity pairing: it predated both women’s television fame.
Their association became visible to viewers when Kardashian appeared on The Simple Life, which began airing in 2003. The show offers an early public record of their connection, though a television appearance by itself cannot tell us what their private friendship was like.
When the friendship became public—and then seemed to cool
Socializing in the mid-2000s
Kardashian later recalled traveling to Ibiza with Hilton in 2006 and described knowing where to go to be seen by the press. In a 2007 interview excerpt reproduced by The Independent, she also spoke of socializing with Hilton and other friends. These accounts show a public association; they do not establish private motives or the exact nature of the friendship.

Distance and the 2008 insult
Retrospective coverage describes the friendship as appearing to cool as Kardashian’s public profile grew after 2007. In 2008, Hilton made a disparaging remark about Kardashian’s body during a radio interview and later apologized, according to Us Weekly. The episode is a documented part of the public history, but the reporting does not establish it as the sole cause of their distance—or prove that Kardashian’s growing fame made Hilton jealous.
By 2011, Kardashian described the relationship as having drifted apart. As quoted by Us Weekly, she said, “We don’t really talk. As I always say, everyone comes into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime. And she was in my life for a long time.” That is evidence of how Kardashian described their contact at the time, not confirmation of a lasting feud.

How they publicly reconnected
In 2014, Kardashian posted a photo with Hilton from Ibiza, recalling their first trip there in 2006. She wrote, “Reminiscing about the 1st time we went to Ibiza in 2006! @parishilton it was so good to see you & catch up!! Loves it lol” The post is a clear public sign that they had caught up, but it does not reveal when or how any private reconciliation happened.
Kardashian spoke warmly about Hilton in a 2019 Los Angeles Times interview. “Paris, in my eyes, has done a lot for me in my career,” she said, adding, “A lot of people became aware of who I was through my friendship with her.” Kardashian said they lost contact for a while after she began filming Keeping Up with the Kardashians, then ran into each other and reconnected. She described Hilton as supportive and sweet, and said, “I would do anything for her.”

Us Weekly reported that Hilton appeared in a Skims campaign in 2020 and Kardashian attended Hilton’s wedding in November 2021. Those are further public signs of a friendly relationship at those times. They do not establish the women’s private status now: the latest relationship evidence in these accounts is from 2021, and public appearances cannot settle how close two people are away from the cameras.

“Rocky relationship” is a fair shorthand for a period of public distance and a highly publicized insult. But the record supports a more careful account than a clean best-friends-to-enemies plot: they were childhood friends, their contact appeared to lessen, Kardashian said they had drifted apart, and they later publicly reconnected. The accounts document events and statements, not a definitive private cause for the distance or a sustained feud between them.
