There is no fully verified, current top eight for the highest-grossing theatrical re-releases: available lists mix one-run grosses with cumulative totals, and an older ranking misses the 2026 Avengers: Endgame Encore. The strongest supported figures show Titanic’s 2012 3D release at $350,449,521 worldwide, while Endgame Encore had added a reported $126 million by October 4, 2026. Those figures are not enough to establish a definitive eight-place order, so the figures below are presented as a sourced snapshot—not a complete all-time ranking.
What counts as a re-release gross?
This comparison concerns a theatrical re-release event’s worldwide gross in nominal US dollars, not a film’s total lifetime gross across its original release and later runs. It also keeps distinct a single named event and the combined total of separate rereleases. Those definitions matter: a film’s cumulative box-office total can be much larger than the amount earned by any one re-release.

Worldwide event totals also answer a different question from domestic opening-weekend results. The latter can show how a re-release launched in one market, but cannot establish its final worldwide event ranking.

The table lists the event totals directly supported by the cited sources. Values are nominal US dollars; figures described as reported or still changing should not be treated as final.

Why an eight-place ranking is not reliable yet
A German-language compilation offers a historical candidate list, but it is secondary, predates the 2026 Endgame Encore, and gives slightly different figures for The Lion King and The Phantom Menace than Box Office Mojo’s current event data. It lists American Graffiti (2023) at $115,557,835, Return of the Jedi (1997) at $89,388,357, and Mamma Mia! (2020) at $84,579,977, but those entries are not independently established here on the same event-level basis as the figures above. See the compiled historical list as a source of candidates, not as an authoritative final ranking.
The problem is not merely that one recent title needs adding. The available records do not verify eight worldwide totals with a consistent definition, source standard, and cutoff. A neat numbered list would imply a certainty the records do not support.

How to interpret the notable comparisons
Endgame’s opening was not its event total
The Associated Press reported that the 2026 Endgame re-release took in $26 million domestically over its opening weekend and another $60 million overseas. AP also noted that the 1997 Star Wars release and 2011 The Lion King repeat opened higher domestically. These are opening-weekend comparisons, not final worldwide event grosses; they should not be substituted for the totals in the table. Associated Press coverage
Historical totals can change
Box-office databases and distributors may update historical totals, and a re-release still in theaters can keep earning. For that reason, an “all time” list without a dated cutoff can become stale or obscure whether it ranks a single run or all later runs combined.

How to read “highest grossing theatrically re-releases of all time”
For a meaningful comparison, check three things: whether the number is worldwide or domestic, whether it covers one named event or cumulative reissues, and the date through which the total was reported. The figures here are worldwide event amounts where the sources specify them; they do not establish a definitive current top eight.
