The Marvel Cinematic Universe leads the captured worldwide ranking, with a reported $32,487,068,924 across 37 films. That figure is a snapshot of theatrical box-office gross—not profit or a measure of a franchise’s total value—and the ranking shifts with new releases, re-releases and database revisions.
What this ranking counts
This is a ranking of cumulative reported worldwide theatrical grosses, using a table captured in July 2026 with a note for the week commencing 3 July 2026. The table reports four comparable fields: cumulative gross, number of films, average gross per film and the highest-grossing installment. Its figures are source-reported, not independently audited totals. See the worldwide film-series table.
The source table includes 45 entries, but its categories are not all equivalent in scope. It lists the Marvel Cinematic Universe alongside character-led series such as Spider-Man, whose MCU films also contribute to the MCU total. It groups Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts under the broader Wizarding World heading. Those overlaps mean entries should not be added together as if each represented a separate, non-overlapping set of films.
The worldwide leader in the captured table
The table puts the Marvel Cinematic Universe first at $32,487,068,924 across 37 films. It names Avengers: Endgame as the franchise’s highest-grossing installment, at $2,797,501,328. Both are reported values in the table’s July 2026 snapshot, rather than measures of profit, ticket sales or total franchise revenue.

Why this is not a ranking of franchise value
- Gross is not profit. The cited table does not account for production or marketing costs, distribution terms or other expenses.
- Theatrical gross is not total revenue. Home video, streaming, merchandise and other income are outside the measure.
- Gross is not audience size. The table does not provide ticket admissions, and it does not apply a common inflation adjustment.
- Categories can overlap. Shared-universe films may appear in both an umbrella franchise and a character-specific series; broad labels can also combine distinct sub-series.
For those reasons, the ranking answers a narrower question: which entries in this table have the largest reported cumulative worldwide theatrical grosses under its category choices.
Worldwide and North American charts are different comparisons
Box Office Mojo’s franchise chart is explicitly for the US and Canada, not worldwide. Its totals, release counts and leading releases are useful for a domestic comparison, but they cannot be substituted into a worldwide ranking. View Box Office Mojo’s US & Canada franchise chart.

How to read the 45 entries
The ranking’s order depends on the source’s franchise definitions as well as its reported grosses. Before comparing two entries, check whether one is an umbrella universe and the other is a nested series, and whether the table groups spin-offs or related series together. The number of films and average gross per film provide context, but neither removes the effect of those classification choices.
The July 2026 table is a dated snapshot, not a permanent all-time record. A later theatrical release, re-release or source revision can change cumulative totals and positions. Any published version should identify its snapshot and apply the same inclusion rules across all 45 entries.
