In the excerpt published by Scroll.in, Sparkling Apartments’ proud record of cleanliness is upended when its residents’ association president steps in poop—and residents begin blaming one another.
What happens in the excerpt?
Sparkling Apartments is a fictional Delhi residential complex whose residents take pride in being exceptionally clean. The story says the society has won the “Cleanest Cooperative Housing Society Award” for four years running; that is a detail of the fiction, not a verified real-world award.
One morning, RWA president Shri Gangajal Badrinathji steps in poop. His outraged “What the hell!” quickly gives way to a bigger dispute: residents wonder whether it came from a dog or a cat, and suspicion falls on the people who keep each kind of pet. The president cuts through the argument with, “It doesn’t matter whose poo it is! It is poo!”
Why does the incident turn into a mystery?
The humor comes from the residents’ confidence that the other group must be responsible. Rather than settling the matter, the possibility of reviewing CCTV footage adds another layer to the quarrel. The excerpt ends while the dispute is still unfolding: it does not reveal who left the poop or how the mystery is resolved.
