What Chock said about Kathy
In a report on the show’s second episode, Chock described being with Kathy for nine years, being engaged, and expecting to spend their lives together. He also spoke about learning of her illness and her death. The report attributes this statement to him about what Kathy told him: “I want you to go on with your life.”
Chock said that encouragement was one reason he came on the show. These are remarks attributed to him during the episode by entertainment reporting; they offer his account of the relationship and his decision, not independent access to his private feelings.
What the “signs” do—and don’t—show
He remembered a serious relationship
Speaking about a late partner and the future they had imagined is evidence that the relationship mattered to him. It is not, by itself, evidence that he remained romantically attached in a way that prevented him from dating someone new.

He spoke emotionally about her death
The episode report describes Chock discussing Kathy’s illness and death with emotion. Grief and remembrance can remain part of a person’s life; neither alone establishes an inability to move forward. Interviews about Joan and Chock have also discussed their shared experience of losing partners, which provides context for their conversations about grief but does not settle what either person privately felt.
He said she wanted him to continue living
Chock’s account of Kathy’s words points in the opposite direction from a claim that he believed he should stop building a life after her death. It still cannot prove exactly how ready he felt, but it is relevant context for why he chose to seek a relationship on the show.

Did Chock move on with Joan?
After the finale, ABC reported in November 2024 that Joan Vassos and Chock were engaged and discussing their next chapter. That establishes their publicly reported status at the time of ABC’s report; it does not determine what Chock felt about Kathy, nor does it establish his relationship status today.
Is Chock still in love with his late fiancée?
The available public statements do not answer that private question. They support a narrower conclusion: Chock described a lasting relationship, spoke about Kathy’s death, and said she encouraged him to go on with his life. Calling those remarks “signs he isn’t over her” is an interpretation, not a verified fact. Remembering a late partner is not proof that someone cannot love again.
