“Welcome to female rage” is showrunner Veena Sud’s description of the energy she wants for a new television story set in the world of Stieg Larsson’s Millennium books—not a series title, plot synopsis, or release announcement. Sud made the remark in a March 2024 interview, saying the project was under wraps. An earlier announcement described a new Lisbeth Salander story with a new setting, characters, and story; the available reports do not establish a cast, production status, or release date.
What did Veena Sud mean by “Welcome to female rage”?
In a March 2024 interview with ScreenRant, as reported by GamesRadar+, Sud said: “Well, it’s a little bit under wraps right now, so I can’t reveal too much other than to say, Welcome to female rage. It’s strong, it’s powerful, and it’s going to take some s–t down in the next few years.” The quote is attributed to Sud, the project’s showrunner, in GamesRadar+’s March 22, 2024 report.

Sud was characterizing the project’s force and mood, not laying out its plot. She also reflected on themes in the books, including female rage, abuse, racism, and white nationalism. Those comments are her discussion of the source material; they are not a confirmed list of subjects or storylines for the series.
What is the new series about?
The October 2023 announcement described a new story taking Lisbeth Salander into today’s world, with a new setting and new characters. That points to a fresh story in the Millennium world, rather than a straightforward television retelling of the first novel. The announcement named Veena Sud as showrunner and Amazon MGM Studios and Left Bank Pictures as producers. Deadline’s announcement report did not provide a detailed plot.

Does the update reveal a cast or release date?
No. Sud explicitly said the project was under wraps, and the reports cited here do not establish its current production status, cast, or release timing. The March 2024 comment is a historical update, not evidence of a new 2026 announcement. Without a newer authoritative confirmation, it would be misleading to describe the series as currently in production or to suggest a release window.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How does it relate to the original novel?
Stieg Larsson’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo introduced Lisbeth Salander, but the announced television project is described as a new story with new story elements. The novel is useful context for the character and the wider franchise; the announcement does not confirm that the series will adapt its events or directly follow the book’s plot.
