“The Girl Who Prayed to Lucifer” is an online legend about a girl who prays for Lucifer and a mysterious man who appears at her funeral. Retellings place the story in Tijuana, sometimes in 2005, but the available accounts do not verify that it happened. They also differ on key details, so there is no established canonical version.
What is the story of the girl who prayed for Lucifer about?
In the recurring premise, a girl prays for her family and for Lucifer. After she dies, a humble or mysterious man appears at her funeral and offers to pay the expenses. In some versions, he says she was the only person who prayed for him; the story implies that he is Lucifer.
The details vary across retellings. A Scribd-hosted document names the girl Sofia and has the funeral guest identify himself as Lucifer. A Medium post instead emphasizes that the man signs his name “L.” These are differences among versions, not evidence that one account is more accurate.
Where and when is the story supposed to have happened?
Some retellings set the story in Tijuana in 2005. A January 5, 2024 Medium post by UthXperience gives that setting and year, while a Wondering Things blog post presents the account as a modern urban legend. The sources do not corroborate the location or date.

Is the story real?
It has not been established as a real event. UthXperience writes, “This story is real it happens 2005 in Tijuana,” but the personal post provides no independent verification. The available retellings do not identify a first-hand witness or supply supporting records. No canonical original author or traceable origin is established in these accounts.
The story’s circulation is documented by online posts, but that is different from evidence that the girl, funeral, or benefactor existed as described. It is best treated as an unverified online legend, not verified news or a confirmed supernatural event.

Why do versions of the story differ?
Informal retellings do not agree on the girl’s name, how explicitly the funeral guest identifies himself, or whether the account is presented as fact or legend. The Scribd page also includes a more elaborate expansion beyond its shorter telling; those added narrative elements should not be assumed to belong to a stable original. The differences show variation in the story, not proof of a particular version.
