How The Giant entered WCW against Hulk Hogan
WCW introduced The Giant at the top of the card. In his first match, he faced reigning WCW Champion Hulk Hogan at Halloween Havoc in October 1995. WWE’s retrospective describes the event and debut, while its official match page identifies the bout as The Giant’s first televised competition and a WCW Championship match.
That setup made the newcomer an immediate threat to the promotion’s established champion. The match was not simply an introduction for a new wrestler: the championship was at stake from the start.
How The Giant beat Hulk Hogan and won the title
The finish is the detail that makes the result unusual. WWE’s retrospective interview with Kevin Sullivan reports that The Giant defeated Hogan by disqualification and became champion under the bout’s stipulation. In other words, the title changed hands even though The Giant did not win by a conventional pinfall or submission.

The available account establishes the basic mechanism, but not the exact contract wording. It is best to describe the result as a disqualification victory that awarded The Giant the championship under the stipulation, rather than inventing more precise terms or recounting an unsupported blow-by-blow.
Why the Dungeon of Doom story feels so strange
The feud’s oddness comes from the contrast between its theatrical framing and its wrestling mechanics. The Giant was part of the Dungeon of Doom, a group WWE’s retrospective presents through an outsized, deliberately fantastical lens. Against that backdrop, a championship changing hands on a disqualification stipulation feels less like a standard title-match finish and more like a melodramatic plot turn.

Calling it WCW’s “weirdest” feud is an editorial judgment, not an established ranking. The case for the label is visible in the ingredients: a larger-than-life faction, a new challenger placed immediately opposite Hogan, and a title change that hinged on a rule rather than a clean decisive finish.
Where the nWo fits—and where it doesn’t
Hogan and The Giant later became connected to the nWo era, but that belongs to a different chapter of WCW history. WWE’s nWo retrospective describes Hogan aligning with Scott Hall and Kevin Nash, with The Giant joining later. The 1995 Halloween Havoc title match was framed around The Giant, Hogan, and the Dungeon of Doom—not as an nWo storyline.

WWE maintains an official video page for Hulk Hogan vs. The Giant at Halloween Havoc 1995. Its event retrospective also covers the October 1995 title match. These sources verify the bout’s historical framing; they do not provide a complete week-by-week account of the build or establish the exact language of the stipulation.
