The five performers named in People en Español’s January 11, 2023, roundup of Latino SAG Awards nominees were Ana de Armas, Alfonso Herrera, Jenna Ortega, Aubrey Plaza, and Selena Gomez. The list refers to the 29th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, held on February 26, 2023—not to a current nominee slate. Their nominations spanned individual acting honors and television ensemble categories.
Who were the five performers?
People en Español’s article, “The 5 Latinx Actors & Actresses Nominated for the SAG Awards,” identified these five performers as Latino nominees. It did not explain how it classified identity, so the list should be understood as the article’s own roundup rather than a formal definition or exhaustive account.
| Performer | Project | Reported category | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ana de Armas | Blonde | Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role | Individual performance; film |
| Jenna Ortega | Wednesday | Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series | Individual performance; television |
| Aubrey Plaza | The White Lotus | Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series | Ensemble; television |
| Alfonso Herrera | Ozark | Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series | Ensemble; television |
| Selena Gomez | Only Murders in the Building | Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series | Ensemble; television |
The category associations above are those reported in the roundup. They distinguish two individual acting nominations from three ensemble nominations; the latter recognize a cast or ensemble, not a separate individual acting category for each performer.
How the nominations differed
Individual performance nominations
Ana de Armas was listed for a leading-role performance in the film Blonde. Jenna Ortega was listed for her performance in the television comedy series Wednesday. These were the two individual acting categories in the roundup.

Television ensemble nominations
Plaza and Herrera were associated with drama-series ensemble nominations for The White Lotus and Ozark, respectively. Gomez was associated with a comedy-series ensemble nomination for Only Murders in the Building. These are cast-level categories, distinct from individual performance honors.
Because the list combines different formats and category types, the nominations are not directly rankable against one another: they recognize different kinds of work.

Why Ariana DeBose appears in the article
The roundup also referred to Ariana DeBose’s previous-year win for playing Anita in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story. It attributed this statement to DeBose, speaking to reporters backstage: “It’s an honor to be an Afro-Latina queer woman of color and a dancer and a singer and an actor.” DeBose was mentioned as context, not as one of the five performers in the roundup’s nominee list.

The headline refers to the 29th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. People en Español reported that the ceremony was scheduled for February 26, 2023, at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles. That date is historical; this list is not a guide to nominees for a later awards year.
