Directed by Matt Shakman, it stars Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm. It is the MCU’s first Fantastic Four film, and it is set in a separate universe, Earth-828, rather than the main MCU continuity. This guide separates what Marvel has confirmed from what fans have inferred, and it avoids plot spoilers.
The cast and the characters they play
Marvel’s cast announcement, dated February 14, 2024, maps each actor to a character. The table uses those character names; the announcement’s descriptive wording is promotional, so it is left out here.

The retro-futuristic setting and Earth-828
Marvel describes the film’s world as a “1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world.” In a Marvel.com interview published July 25, 2025, Kevin Feige confirmed that this world is another universe called Earth-828. He said the look draws on mid-century optimism, on Disneyland’s Tomorrowland, and on the 1939 and 1964 World’s Fairs. He also framed the film as a tribute to Jack Kirby’s visual and storytelling legacy.
Feige’s explanation of the tone is the clearest statement of the film’s intent:
“I think we might be in that cycle right now, where it’s been forgotten that the future should be an exciting thing, not a scary thing.”

Where the film fits in the MCU
In the July 25, 2025 interview, Marvel calls First Steps the team’s official induction into the MCU, while also noting that the film takes place in another universe. Feige said Pascal, Kirby, Quinn, and Moss-Bachrach would return in Avengers: Doomsday, alongside Avengers and X-Men characters.
That is the most recent confirmation of the cast’s future role available for this guide, and it dates from July 2025. It does not establish the current release schedule or casting status of Avengers: Doomsday as of October 2026. Check Marvel’s official channels before relying on any date for that film.

What the official synopsis does and does not reveal
Marvel’s official movie page says the four heroes “face their most daunting challenge yet.” That line is the only plot description in the official text reviewed here. It does not name the antagonist or outline the story, so any beat-by-beat plot is not confirmed by Marvel.
Giacchino’s interview discusses the film’s story elements, including the arrival of Galactus and a cult that accepts the coming destruction. Treat these as production context from the composer, not as a complete official summary. Readers who want to avoid spoilers should stop here.

The score and the end-credit song
Marvel reports that Giacchino’s main theme features a choir of more than 100 voices, recorded at Abbey Road Studios. In a Marvel.com interview published July 29, 2025, Giacchino described the music as an attempt to express human warmth and optimistic wonder. He also said:

The same interview says Andrea Datzman wrote and performed “Let Us Be Devoured,” an end-credit song in a folk style. It is inspired by the film’s Galactus cult.
