The Day of the Jackal is a 2024 thriller series based on Frederick Forsyth’s 1971 novel, starring Eddie Redmayne as a contract assassin and Lashana Lynch as the British intelligence officer on his trail. It premiered on Peacock in the U.S. on November 14, 2024; Peacock’s series page lists a ten-episode first season.
What is The Day of the Jackal about?
The contemporary adaptation follows the Jackal, a highly skilled assassin who takes high-fee contracts, and the determined British intelligence officer pursuing him after a killing. Peacock describes their conflict as a cat-and-mouse chase across Europe. The series is based on Frederick Forsyth’s 1971 novel, not presented as a documentary or true-crime account. The official materials establish the adaptation and premise, but do not support a detailed account of how its plot differs from either the book or the 1973 film.
The Day of the Jackal Peacock release date
The announced 2024 schedule began with the UK premiere on Sky on November 7, followed by the U.S. Peacock premiere on November 14. Comcast said new Peacock episodes would arrive weekly on Thursdays. Those dates describe the original launch schedule, not a current promotional window.
Peacock’s U.S. series page currently lists one season with ten episodes. Catalog availability can change, and the listing does not establish availability in other countries.
