Spoilers for the ending and end credits: Yes. The Conjuring: Last Rites has a brief post-credits epilogue: an archival photograph of Ed Warren appears with the film’s mirror in the background, followed by text saying the Warrens’ museum mirror was called a “conjuring mirror.” The reveal gives the franchise title a new meaning within the film’s story, but it does not prove the mirror inspired the title of the 2013 original.
What happens after the credits?
The epilogue uses a real photograph of Ed Warren, with the mirror from the film visible behind him. Text then identifies the museum object as a “conjuring mirror.” It is an archival image and written reveal, not a new scene featuring Patrick Wilson, Vera Farmiga, or other returning actors. What does the post-credits reveal mean for the title?
The card connects the franchise’s name to the mirror at the center of Last Rites and to the Warrens’ case files: in the film’s story, the object was known as a conjuring mirror. That makes the ending a retrospective explanation, or retcon, of the title’s meaning in the series.
It is not evidence that the mirror supplied the naming idea for The Conjuring when the first film was made in 2013. As Slashfilm notes, the mirror’s central place in the Warrens’ lives is fictionalized in Last Rites; its later importance could not have been established as the original film’s title inspiration.

Does this end the Conjuring universe?
Warner Bros. presents Last Rites as the ninth theatrical entry in the Conjuring universe and as one last case for Ed and Lorraine Warren, played by Wilson and Farmiga. That framing makes it the conclusion of their story as portrayed by those actors, not a confirmed end to every story in the wider franchise. Warner Bros.’ official film page
James Wan said he wanted the team to finish while audiences still enjoyed the films, rather than stretch the franchise indefinitely. He also said he did not know whether a proposed second phase would happen. So the Warrens’ farewell is clear; the larger universe’s future was left open. CNA’s report on Wan’s comments

Why did James Wan choose the Smurl case?
Wan said the Smurl case felt “full circle” because he had watched the 1991 television film The Haunted, directed by Robert Mandel and starring Sally Kirkland. That earlier dramatization introduced him to Ed and Lorraine Warren, according to his account. This explains Wan’s personal connection to choosing the case; it is not evidence about the historical haunting itself. CNA
