The Chosen Season 6 follows the final 24 hours of Jesus’ life, with the crucifixion at its center. Creator Dallas Jenkins called it the series’ “most important and biggest and heaviest season,” while actor Abe Bueno-Jallad said he thinks it will be the show’s most intense yet. Prime Video is scheduled to begin streaming it on November 15, 2026, with the finale planned for theaters in spring 2027.
What is The Chosen Season 6 about?
The season focuses on the final day of Jesus’ life and the people who love, follow, or condemn him. The official season page describes it as a 24-hour story leading to the cross. Jenkins said the episodes will explore not only the familiar outline of the crucifixion but also “the ‘why’ of the crucifixion and the extraordinary events of these 24 hours.” The Chosen’s Season 6 page and the official release announcement frame the season around those events and their impact on the characters.
What did Dallas Jenkins say about the season’s intensity?
Jenkins described Season 6 as “the most important and biggest and heaviest season we’ve ever done.” His words emphasize the story’s significance and emotional weight; he did not call it the show’s most intense season. He also cautioned against assuming that a season about the crucifixion would be without moments of hope: “But there’s also moments of pure joy and meaning as well, which you wouldn’t expect in a season about the crucifixion.” Both comments were reported by KSL/Deseret News on July 27, 2026.
Why actor Abe Bueno-Jallad expects it to feel intense
Bueno-Jallad, who plays Big James, supplied the “most intense” description. In the same report, he said, “I say this every year, but I truly think that this time, this is going to be the most intense that they’ve ever seen us go.” He pointed to the accelerated pace, drama, and characters trying to stop events they cannot prevent. That is an actor’s expectation, not a separate official promise about how viewers will respond.

How the crucifixion scenes were filmed
Production filmed crucifixion scenes in Matera, Italy, in 2025. The Associated Press reported that the crew spent three weeks filming there during June. Jenkins said the real horizon helped deliver the authenticity he wanted. The location offers context for the production’s approach, but filming on location does not by itself establish how any scene will appear in the finished episodes. The Associated Press report from Matera also describes cast members’ reactions to filming the crucifixion scenes.
When does Season 6 come out, and where can you watch it?
The official schedule puts the first three episodes on Prime Video on November 15, 2026, followed by one episode each week. The planned finale is a separate theatrical release in spring 2027, rather than another episode arriving with the December streaming run.
