Is Twisters a sequel to Twister (1996)?
Twisters is a standalone story with new characters, rather than a direct sequel featuring the original film’s characters. Director Lee Isaac Chung told the Associated Press that “The movie, considered a standalone and not a direct sequel to the 1996 film, stars Daisy Edgar-Jones, Anthony Ramos and Glen Powell as a new bunch of storm chasers.” The 2024 film does retain references and elements associated with the earlier movie, including Dorothy sensors. The Associated Press interview with Chung discusses the connection.
