The cabin scene in ABC’s 20/20 episode “The Last Hunt” recounts the discovery of Bianca Rudolph, who died during a safari in Zambia in October 2016. Zambian authorities initially ruled her death accidental; years later, a U.S. federal jury convicted her husband, dentist Lawrence “Larry” Rudolph, of murder and mail fraud tied to insurance proceeds. The episode follows the case from the cabin through the investigation, trial and sentences.
What the 20/20 cabin scene shows
“The Last Hunt” revisits the cabin where Bianca Rudolph was found after she was shot during a 2016 safari in Zambia. The episode recounts safari guide Spencer Kokoma’s account of reaching the cabin and finding her. A third-party transcript of the episode records the question, “When you opened the door, what did you see in there?” and Kokoma’s reply, “She was not breathing. She was dead.” Because that wording comes from a transcript rather than an independently verified broadcast recording, treat it as the transcript’s rendering of the exchange.

The cabin scene is a starting point for the episode’s account of how a death first treated as accidental became the subject of a U.S. criminal investigation and federal trial.
From Zambia’s initial ruling to the U.S. case
Bianca Rudolph died in Zambia in October 2016. Local authorities initially ruled her death an accident. That determination and the later U.S. jury verdict are separate outcomes: the first was the initial local ruling, while the second followed a federal prosecution in the United States.

Lawrence “Larry” Rudolph, a Pittsburgh-area dentist, was later prosecuted in U.S. federal court. The case centered on the government’s allegations that he murdered Bianca and sought insurance proceeds through fraud. Those allegations should be distinguished from the defense position; the jury ultimately found Rudolph guilty of murder and mail fraud.
Trial, verdicts and sentences
The jury convicted Rudolph of murdering Bianca and committing mail fraud tied to life-insurance proceeds. In 2023, he was sentenced to life in prison for murder and a concurrent 20-year term for mail fraud. The Associated Press also reported that the court imposed more than $15 million in financial penalties.

Co-defendant Lori Milliron was convicted on accessory-related and other charges. ABC reported that she received a 17-year federal sentence in 2023. At sentencing, Rudolph’s attorney, David Oscar Markus, said, “And we’ll be back to get a fair trial and then Larry can walk out of here a free man.” That was the defense’s position at the time, not a statement of any later appellate result.

ABC identifies the episode as “The Last Hunt.” ABC also reported that its related three-part series Trophy Wife: Murder on Safari began streaming on Hulu on July 21, 2025. That announcement does not establish whether the series remains available in Hulu’s current catalog.

The episode transcript says Rudolph and Milliron had appealed when the program aired. A party filing to the U.S. Supreme Court dated December 2025 does not by itself establish the Court’s later disposition or the current status of every related appeal. The sources cited here therefore do not establish a current appellate outcome.
