The Brat Pack actors did not follow one shared path: they continued across film and television, while some also directed, wrote, or performed onstage. The label itself was never an official group with a fixed roster. The latest member-by-member overview cited here was published in June 2024, so the credits below are dated reference points—not a live check of what every actor is doing in October 2026.
Who was in the Brat Pack?
“Brat Pack” is an informal media label for young actors associated with a wave of 1980s coming-of-age films, not the name of a formally constituted group. The phrase is attributed to New York magazine writer David Blum’s 1985 feature, which initially centered on Emilio Estevez. Its familiar roster includes Andrew McCarthy, Molly Ringwald, Rob Lowe, Demi Moore, Judd Nelson, Estevez, Anthony Michael Hall, and Ally Sheedy, though accounts of the group’s boundaries vary.
The Outsiders, The Breakfast Club, and St. Elmo’s Fire are among the films most closely associated with the era. ABC News describes The Breakfast Club and St. Elmo’s Fire as a 1985 high point for Brat Pack-associated cinema. ABC News’ report on the label and documentary and TheWrap’s June 2024 cast overview both treat the roster as a familiar grouping, not an official membership list.
Where are the Brat Pack actors now?
The following career snapshots reflect work reported in TheWrap’s June 13, 2024 overview, with a later Demi Moore interview noted separately. They are selective examples, not complete filmographies or claims about current employment.

| Actor | Career snapshot |
|---|---|
| Andrew McCarthy | TheWrap described him as acting occasionally while focusing mainly on writing and directing. It noted travel writing for National Geographic, memoirs, television directing, and his documentary Brats. Familiar screen credits include Pretty in Pink, St. Elmo’s Fire, Less Than Zero, and Mannequin. |
| Molly Ringwald | TheWrap identified her portrayal of Joanne Carson in Feud: Capote vs. the Swans as her most recent work at the time of publication. Its overview also covered Riverdale, Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, Broadway’s Cabaret, jazz, and books. |
| Rob Lowe | TheWrap cited his work on 9-1-1: Lone Star and Netflix’s Unstable, which he made with his son John Owen Lowe. He also reflected on the label’s changing reception in Brats. |
| Demi Moore | TheWrap noted Feud: Capote vs. the Swans and described Landman as upcoming in June 2024. In an April 2025 interview, TIME discussed her work on The Substance and her reflections on public labels and professional reputation. |
| Judd Nelson | TheWrap reviewed film and television work including The Breakfast Club, St. Elmo’s Fire, and Empire, as well as voice work in animated Transformers series. |
| Emilio Estevez | TheWrap covered his acting and directing work, including The Mighty Ducks and The Public. In Brats, he discussed the impact of the label and his reluctance to revisit that period. |
| Anthony Michael Hall | TheWrap cited roles in The Breakfast Club, Weird Science, The Goldbergs, and Bosch: Legacy. |
| Ally Sheedy | TheWrap identified Single Drunk Female as her most recent series role at publication. She also appeared in Brats and discussed her response to the original article’s effect on the group. |
These examples show the variety of work associated with the actors—film, television, stage, writing, and directing—rather than a single shared career. A gap in a dated overview does not establish that someone has retired.
What does the documentary Brats reveal about the label?
McCarthy directed and appeared in Brats, a 2024 documentary revisiting the label and its effect on the actors associated with it. ABC News reported that it brought McCarthy into conversation with Sheedy, Moore, Lowe, and Estevez, as well as Jon Cryer. Ringwald and Nelson declined to participate. ABC reported the film’s Hulu debut on June 13, 2024; that release report does not establish its current availability in any particular country.

The film and its coverage present differing personal accounts, rather than one definitive group view. McCarthy said, “I think that’s what some of us resented so much at the beginning, is that this isn’t the right perception of who we are. This isn’t the reality of our experience.” Sheedy described it as “an image that somebody thought up who doesn’t know anything about us.”
Estevez said the label ultimately did “more damage than good,” while recalling that it could have brought early benefits. Moore said being included felt “unjust” and reflected “a real limited perspective.” Lowe called the original magazine piece “a mean-spirited attempt … to minimize all of our talents,” but said the label now carries “nothing but goodwill.” Blum, the journalist associated with the 1985 feature, recalled, “Honestly, it didn’t cross my mind, really, that it was all that big a deal.” The quotes are reported by ABC News.

Because some actors did not take part, Brats is neither a complete reunion nor a definitive statement on behalf of everyone associated with the label. Its value is in revisiting how a memorable media shorthand could shape—and sometimes flatten—the public understanding of individual careers.
