Both storylines bring the same question into focus—how far can the Boys go to stop Homelander without becoming dangerous themselves?
What happens in “Dirty Business”?
Prime Video lists “Dirty Business” as Season 4, Episode 6, released July 4, 2024. Its official episode listing sets the scene with an invitation: “Dear Visionary, Join fellow billionaires, disruptors, and politicos at Tek Knight Manor to discuss America’s future.” Prime Video’s episode listing
The Boys see the gathering as an intelligence opportunity. Hughie goes undercover as Webweaver to get close to Tek Knight, Sister Sage, and the political players around them. The plan goes wrong: Hughie ends up trapped in Tek Knight’s underground dungeon, and Annie and Kimiko help him escape.
The manor operation reveals a scheme tied to Homelander and Sage: using private prisons to detain their opponents. The gathering is also connected to a broader political maneuver to remove Robert Singer and install Victoria Neuman as president. The apparent sophistication of the plan does not make it less dangerous; it gives Homelander’s faction a way to turn political power into direct control over its enemies.

What is the big Butcher and Kessler twist?
Butcher and Kessler continue pressing captive scientist Sameer for a way to use the anti-Supe virus. Then the episode reveals that Kessler is not physically present: he is a manifestation of Butcher’s mind. He represents the ruthless course Butcher is tempted to take, not an independent ally pursuing the virus alongside him.
That revelation changes how to read Butcher’s choices. He is increasingly isolated, and Kessler gives voice to the most violent option just as Becca’s presence challenges the idea that killing Homelander would solve everything. Butcher’s struggle is not only whether he can get the virus; it is whether he can trust the judgment that is driving him toward using it.

Why is the virus a moral problem?
Sameer warns that a virus potent enough to kill Homelander would become airborne and kill all Supes. That makes the plan far broader than a targeted weapon against one person. The Boys face a strategic and ethical choice: a means of stopping Homelander could also kill Supes who are not the intended target.
The episode places that danger alongside the manor plot. The Boys are trying to prevent a political takeover and mass imprisonment, but the weapon they are pursuing could inflict indiscriminate harm. The two plans are not equivalent, yet both show how a fight for control can put people beyond the original target in danger.

What the episode’s twists set up
“Dirty Business” advances two threats at once: Homelander’s allies are moving toward political power and private prisons, while Butcher’s pursuit of a lethal virus risks turning a targeted fight into a catastrophe for all Supes. Hughie’s failure to stay in control at the manor and Butcher’s imagined conversations with Kessler both expose the cost of operating under pressure. The episode ends with the Boys facing not just what their enemies intend to do, but what their own methods might unleash.
