In “Life Among the Septics,” TruthCon becomes the stage for Sister Sage’s effort to recruit Firecracker—and for a clash over how conspiracy-minded audiences can be organized. Back with the Boys, Butcher’s terminal prognosis and refusal to follow a surveillance-only plan deepen the breach between him and Mother’s Milk.
Episode details
“Life Among the Septics” is Season 4, Episode 2 of The Boys. Prime Video lists its release date as June 13, 2024, and its runtime as 1 hour 1 minute. The episode listing teases TruthCon with the line, “The Moon Landing never happened… BECAUSE THE MOON ISN’T REAL! Find out what else they don’t want you to know at #TruthCon!” Prime Video episode listing.
What happens at TruthCon?
Sister Sage meets Firecracker at TruthCon and tests what the performer can offer beyond demonstrating her powers. Firecracker’s answer is purpose: she gives people who feel isolated or disaffected a community and a story about fighting a hidden enemy.
The conversation makes TruthCon more than an eccentric backdrop. Firecracker describes a way to turn belonging into political organization: a shared identity and perceived threat can bind an audience together. Sage’s interest is in that influence, not simply in Firecracker’s abilities.

Why does Mother’s Milk fire Butcher?
Butcher tells the Boys that he has months to live. Mother’s Milk responds by firing him, adding an immediate personal blow to the team’s existing strain.
When Butcher and MM eavesdrop on Sage and Firecracker, MM’s instruction is to keep the operation to surveillance. Butcher pushes to act against Sage instead. MM physically removes him from the situation, and the disagreement over the mission becomes a direct confrontation over who can be trusted to follow the team’s limits.

How the two storylines connect
The TruthCon and team scenes put two forms of influence side by side. Sage is trying to channel an audience through Firecracker’s promise of purpose and community; Butcher’s secrecy and disregard for MM’s boundary are eroding trust among the Boys. The episode’s parallel is an interpretation of these scenes, rather than a stated production intention.
