The Borderlands is Elliot Goldner’s 2013 British found-footage horror film about Vatican investigators sent to a remote church in England’s West Country after a priest reports apparent miracles. In US listings, the same film is titled Final Prayer. It begins with an investigative setup and lighter character exchanges before gradually moving into darker horror.
What is The Borderlands about?
A small team of Vatican investigators travels to a remote West Country church to examine reports of unusual events. They install recording equipment and try to determine whether the apparent miracles have an ordinary explanation. That premise is fictional; the film is not a factual account of Vatican investigative practice or evidence of paranormal activity.

Is it a found-footage film?
Yes. The story is presented through recorded material, making the team’s investigation and the cameras part of the film’s form. Goldner described found footage as a first-person mode that often needs a gradual build: if a film reaches its crisis too quickly, he observed, there may be little left in the third act but cameras on the floor.
Goldner also characterized the film as a hybrid: lighter character material and funny moments give way to a descent into darkness. That shift is central to its pacing, rather than a promise of constant scares from the opening.
How long is The Borderlands?
There is no single runtime consistently used across listings. Radio Times lists an 88-minute film, while other listings report 89 minutes and some storefront metadata gives 92 minutes. For a disc purchase, check the runtime attached to the specific edition rather than assuming every release is identical.
Which physical edition should you choose?
The practical choice is between a straightforward DVD and the Second Sight Blu-ray, particularly its limited edition. Compare format, playback-region compatibility and whether the added material matters to you.

| Region 2 UK DVD | A listing identifies an 89-minute disc released 7 April 2014, with English audio. | Viewers who want a basic physical copy and have a compatible player. |
| Second Sight limited-edition Blu-ray | A 2024 report describes a new commentary by actors Robin Hill and Gordon Kennedy, producer Jennifer Handorf and effects artist Dan Martin; interviews with Hill and Kennedy, Handorf and Martin; an archive featurette; a 70-page book; and six art cards. | Collectors or viewers interested in the production and printed extras. |
A review of the Second Sight release said limited and standard editions were available through Amazon UK; listings and stock can change, so confirm the edition, region and availability with the seller. No current price or stock level is established here. The Region 2 DVD is a compatibility concern for buyers outside its relevant playback region.

Rotten Tomatoes displayed an 83% Tomatometer from 18 reviews and a 48% Popcornmeter from 500+ ratings at the time of the cited snapshot. These are platform aggregates, not a representative survey of all viewers, and they can change. One attributed critical response on producer Jennifer Handorf’s portfolio page calls the final act “properly alarming scary fare” and says it “really got under my skin”; the page attributes that opinion to Mark Kermode of The Guardian and Kermode Uncut.
