Spoilers ahead for The Bold and the Beautiful. Luna Nozawa was not merely suspected in the deaths of Tom Starr and Paul “Hollis” Hollister. The show eventually confirmed that Luna killed both men, then tried to make her mother, Poppy Nozawa, take the blame.

The storyline also created a second major revelation months later. When Finn confessed something to Steffy in February 2025, he was not admitting to a crime. He was telling her that Luna was his biological daughter—and that made Luna’s crimes an even more painful threat to the Finnegan family.

Did Luna kill Tom and Hollis?

Yes. Luna killed both Tom and Hollis.

Tom died first in July 2024 after Luna gave him a drug overdose. Tom’s claims about Luna’s paternity threatened the life she wanted to protect, including her closeness to Bill Spencer and her place in his wealthy world. Luna feared that Tom could expose the truth and destroy the identity she had built around Bill.

Hollis became the second victim after finding Tom’s backpack and letters. The material connected Tom to Luna’s paternity mystery, and Hollis began to understand that Luna was involved. Luna drugged Hollis before he could tell anyone what he had discovered.

At first, both deaths looked like overdoses rather than conventional murders. That uncertainty allowed Luna to remain close to the investigation and helped suspicion fall on Poppy. But the apparent overdose explanation eventually collapsed when Steffy connected Luna’s behavior, her motives and her relationship with Bill.

How Steffy uncovered Luna’s secret

On August 23, 2024, Steffy began putting the clues together. Seeing Luna kiss Bill Spencer was a crucial moment: Steffy recognized that Luna’s motives were not limited to family drama. Luna wanted to preserve her connection to Bill, and anyone who threatened that relationship could become a danger to her plans.

Luna realized that Steffy was getting too close to the truth. She drugged Steffy and imprisoned her in a cage. During the August 26–27 episodes, Luna admitted that she had killed both Tom and Hollis.

That confession settled the central murder mystery. Luna was the killer, Poppy had been framed, and the deaths were not the result of an innocent chain of drug-related accidents.

Why did Luna kill them?

The simplest explanation—that Luna killed for Bill’s money—is incomplete. Her motive combined panic about her biological father with a determination to keep her position in Bill’s life.

Luna believed Tom was her biological father. She was horrified by the possibility that her father was a formerly homeless, drug-addicted musician. Tom’s identity threatened the image Luna wanted to maintain and raised the possibility that her connection to Bill might disappear. Killing Tom removed the person she believed could expose her paternity story.

Hollis was killed because he discovered evidence linking Tom to Luna. Once Hollis understood what had happened, he became a witness. Luna drugged him to stop him from revealing the truth.

That distinction matters. Luna was not simply pursuing money in the abstract. She was trying to control her identity, protect her relationship with Bill and prevent the paternity secret from destroying her future.

What happened to Poppy?

Poppy was temporarily arrested after evidence appeared to connect her to Tom and Hollis’s deaths. The case against her formed part of Luna’s attempt to redirect suspicion.

However, Poppy was not the murderer. The later reveal established that Luna had created the circumstances that made her mother look guilty. Poppy’s arrest was therefore a false lead rather than the solution to the mystery.

What did Finn confess to Steffy?

Finn’s confession to Steffy concerned Luna’s paternity. In episodes airing February 24–25, 2025, Finn told Steffy that Luna was his biological daughter.

This revelation followed questions from Li Finnegan about whether Jack Finnegan was really Luna’s father. Finn conducted a paternity test and learned that he was Luna’s biological father. Poppy was Luna’s biological mother, making Luna Finn’s daughter and Sheila Carter’s biological granddaughter.

The timing is important: Finn did not make this confession during the August 2024 murder reveal. The two revelations are separated by roughly six months.

Date Event
July 2024 Tom and Hollis die in separate drug-overdose cases, creating the murder mystery.
August 23, 2024 Steffy begins to suspect that Luna is responsible.
August 26–27, 2024 Luna holds Steffy captive and admits killing Tom and Hollis.
September 2, 2024 Steffy confirms Luna’s confession to Finn.
February 3, 2025 Finn confirms through testing that Luna is his daughter.
February 24–25, 2025 Finn tells Steffy the paternity truth.
March 2025 Finn continues to recognize Luna as his daughter while insisting that she answer for her crimes.

Why Finn’s revelation devastated Steffy

Steffy was already dealing with Luna as a killer who had attacked her and held her captive. Finn’s paternity confession made the situation personal in a new way.

Luna had killed two men, attempted to frame Poppy and drugged Steffy. She was also now Finn’s daughter and part of Sheila’s bloodline. Finn could acknowledge his biological connection to Luna without excusing what she had done. Steffy ultimately stayed with Finn, but she continued to insist that Luna face justice.

That conflict—protecting a family member emotionally while demanding accountability—is the central consequence of Finn’s confession. His discovery did not clear Luna. It made the crimes harder for the Finnegans to process.

What about Luna’s later death?

Luna’s later death is a separate storyline and does not change the murder reveal. In December 2025, Dylan accidentally ran Luna over with a vehicle. Dylan later told Finn and Steffy that the death was accidental.

That event does not mean Luna was innocent of Tom and Hollis’s murders. The show had already dramatized Luna’s confession in August 2024. Nor was Dylan responsible for the earlier deaths.

The answer in brief

  1. Did Luna kill Tom? Yes. She caused his fatal drug overdose because she feared he could expose the truth about her paternity and threaten her future with Bill.
  2. Did Luna kill Hollis? Yes. Hollis discovered evidence connected to Tom and Luna, so she drugged him to silence him.
  3. Was Poppy the killer? No. Poppy was framed and temporarily arrested.
  4. What did Finn confess to Steffy? Finn said that Luna was his biological daughter.
  5. Did Finn confess to killing someone? No. His confession was about paternity, not murder.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: Luna killed Tom and Hollis, motivated by fear that Tom’s paternity claims would destroy her relationship with Bill and the life she wanted. She then tried to shift suspicion onto Poppy before Steffy exposed her. Months later, Finn’s confession to Steffy revealed that Luna was his biological daughter—not that Finn had committed a crime. The paternity revelation complicated the family’s response, but it did not erase Luna’s responsibility.
