The Blackout Room is a ticketed, women-focused nightlife event at The Aberdeen Hotel in Northbridge—not a permanently operating standalone nightclub. Co-founders Shereice Soderberg and Adelle Cousins launched it in August 2024 to offer women a place to dance with less pressure and unwanted attention. PerthNow described it as Perth’s first women-only nightclub; that priority claim has not been independently established across the history of comparable venues.

What is The Blackout Room?

The Blackout Room is a recurring ticketed event held inside The Aberdeen Hotel, at 90 Aberdeen Street, Northbridge. PerthNow reported in May 2025 that it was being held up to four times a year. That is a snapshot from the time of the report, not a confirmed current schedule. The venue’s own FAQ also describes events as running about four times a year, but does not provide a current calendar.

The name appears in the venue’s FAQ as “The Black Out Room,” while PerthNow uses “The Blackout Room.” It is an event within an existing venue, rather than a separate club open every week.

Why did the founders create it?

PerthNow reported that Soderberg and Cousins launched the event in August 2024 after seeing a gap for a party venue where women could socialize and dance with less unwanted attention. Cousins described wanting to go out without pressure, judgment, or groping. Soderberg said that knowing the room was intended for women helped her feel safer.

In an August 2026 feature, Marie Claire Australia quoted Cousins saying, “What we’ve seen at the Blackout Room is that without that layer of pressure, women relax much faster.” These comments explain the founders’ aims and their account of attendees’ experience; they are not proof that harassment or assaults are reduced.

Does it make nightlife safer?

The event is presented by its organizers and venue as a safer-feeling environment, but that framing should not be mistaken for a guarantee. The sources available do not include an independent evaluation of harassment, assaults, attendee perceptions, or comparative safety at The Blackout Room. No specific safety outcome for the event has been established by a published measure.

The venue FAQ calls it “A closed safe space for female ticket holders only.” That is the venue’s description of its intended setting, not an independently verified safety finding. Anyone considering attending should read the current event information and entry rules rather than assume that any venue can guarantee a risk-free night.

Who can attend, according to the venue?

The venue FAQ says the event is open to women, including people assigned female at birth and trans women who have completed their transition. It calls the event a “female encouraged space” intended to provide a safer environment. These are the venue’s published eligibility terms; check the current FAQ or contact the venue if you need clarification about entry.

What should you check before attending?

Date, tickets, and timing

Check the venue’s current event listing for the next date, ticket availability, and any updated schedule. The venue FAQ says the ticketed event closes at 9:30pm, after which the venue opens to the general public for Club Bootylicious. Schedules and event arrangements can change, so confirm whether that timing applies to the event you plan to attend and whether you want to stay for the public afterparty.

Entry and intoxication rules

The venue says it asks attendees to arrive sober and reserves the right to deny entry if it believes someone is under the influence of drugs or excessively intoxicated. It also says entry may be refused where safety concerns arise. These are venue-stated entry conditions, and the current policy should be checked before the event.

Photography and filming

The FAQ says photography and filming take place. It notes that people on stage may appear more prominently in social content. If visibility in photos or videos matters to you, review the venue’s current guidance before buying a ticket or attending.

Getting there and ticket changes

The venue recommends arriving with a friend or group, including by carpool or rideshare. Its FAQ says tickets are non-refundable, but can be moved to the next event or passed on at the ticket holder’s discretion. Confirm the policy with the venue because ticket terms can change.
