No: HBO Max’s The Big Bang Theory spin-off is no longer merely in development. Warner Bros. Discovery announced a series order for Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, a 10-episode comedy about Stuart Bloom and a multiverse crisis. HBO Max announced a July 24, 2026 premiere date, but the official materials reviewed here do not confirm whether the series premiered as scheduled.
What is the new Big Bang Theory spin-off called?
The series is titled Stuart Fails to Save the Universe. Warner Bros. Discovery first announced a project in development based on The Big Bang Theory, then announced that the spin-off had been ordered to series. The title therefore reflects the later, more specific status—not simply an early development proposal.

HBO Max’s official series announcement describes a comedy centered on Stuart Bloom, the comic-book-store owner played by Kevin Sussman in the original series.
What is the story?
Stuart breaks a device built by Sheldon and Leonard, triggering a catastrophe across the multiverse. He sets out to restore reality with help from his girlfriend Denise, geologist Bert, and physicist Barry Kripke. Along the way, the group encounters alternate-universe versions of familiar Big Bang Theory characters.
#1 Best Overall
The premise makes Stuart—not Sheldon, Leonard, or the original ensemble—the central character. It is a multiverse comedy, rather than a continuation focused on the group’s everyday life in the original show.
