Returning costume designer Alex Bovaird built the clothes around character as well as climate. She considered what each person shops for, what they want to project, and whether they are dressing up or down. In Thailand, heat and setting inform the use of linen, market-inspired finds, and resort-friendly silhouettes. That heightened style is part of the satire. Bovaird told Condé Nast Traveler that the show avoids sweatpants and jeans and puts more high heels at beach barbecues than real life would. Mook: the embroidered Tombolo shorts set
Mook, played by Lalisa Manobal, greets guests in a short-sleeve shirt-and-shorts set by Tombolo embroidered with palm trees and monkeys. It is the season’s most direct answer for a distinctive resort shorts look. Bovaird and a local Thai crew also custom-designed Mook’s blouse-and-sarong uniform with input from Manobal. Condé Nast Traveler reports that Tombolo cabana sets were used for spa-butler uniforms as well; that is a separate wardrobe detail from Mook’s embroidered set. Chelsea: crochet, colorful bikinis, and a parrot-print skirt
Chelsea (Aimee Lou Wood) has a relaxed, eclectic wardrobe shaped by the idea of a well-traveled person collecting finds along the way. British Vogue identifies a cutout My Beachy Side minidress, colorful bikinis mostly by Corsica-based Tara Matthews, and a vintage-looking Loewe wrap skirt with a parrot print. Her Blondie T-shirt is another casual piece. The accessories complicate the apparent thrift-store ease: her market-looking sunglasses are Jacquemus, and her bags include JW Anderson and Louis Vuitton. Chloe: custom Jacquemus and a separate Agua by Agua Bendita set
For Chloe (Charlotte Le Bon), Jacquemus created and hand-delivered custom pieces for the Thailand shoot. One look pairs a black-and-white polka-dot bodysuit with a striped sequined skirt; another is a pink one-piece with a sheer sarong for a yacht party. Marie Claire UK separately identifies a floral-embroidered crop top and skirt set Chloe wears as Agua by Agua Bendita. These are distinct looks, not parts of one outfit. Jaclyn, Kate, and Laurie: bright, status-minded resort dressing
ELLE characterizes Jaclyn (Michelle Monaghan) as the friend most eager to flaunt wealth and status, using logomania, bright colors, sequins, short hems, bikinis with kimonos, matching shorts sets, and diamond jewelry. Why the clothes feel more dressed-up than a real beach holiday
Bovaird’s resortwear is designed to be read on screen: outfits amplify personality and social performance, even when that means a beach barbecue has more heels than it would in real life. In Condé Nast Traveler’s interview, she describes the deliberate choice to avoid sweatpants and jeans.
