Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteGood starting points include Doc McStuffins and Bino and Fino for preschoolers, Lyla in the Loop for early elementary viewers, and Iwájú for older children ready for an animated adventure. For music, try Acoustic Rooster; for a guided family conversation about race, choose the PBS special PBS KIDS Talk About: Race & Racism. These shows offer different kinds of stories rather than one definition of Black childhood. Check the age guidance, preview when needed, and confirm that a title is available where you live.
Preschool and early childhood
Bino and Fino: learning through stories about Africa and the wider world
This animated series follows Nigerian siblings Bino and Fino and their butterfly friend. PBS KIDS for Parents describes episodes exploring subjects such as science, language, food, and music. It offers a way to introduce young children to varied places and ideas through an adventurous brother-and-sister duo. PBS says the series is available in multiple languages and through several outlets, but current access can vary. PBS KIDS for Parents
Doc McStuffins: care, curiosity, and imaginative play
PBS KIDS for Parents points to Doc McStuffins as an example of a preschool program with a multidimensional Black character. Common Sense Media recommends it for ages 4+ and describes positive messages for children. It can be a warm choice for a child drawn to pretend play and helping others. Common Sense Media
Bookmarks: Celebrating Black Voices: books read aloud by Black public figures
Netflix describes this live-action preschool series as featuring Black public figures reading children’s books by Black authors. Its launch announcement says it has 12 episodes and is hosted and executive-produced by Marley Dias. The announcement identifies Netflix and Netflix Jr. YouTube as launch outlets; it does not guarantee that the series is currently available in every region. Netflix announcement

Acoustic Rooster: jazz for young listeners
There are two different recommendations here. Common Sense Media lists the musical shorts Acoustic Rooster: Jazzy Jams for ages 2+ as an introduction to jazz. It also lists the 2025 PBS KIDS special Acoustic Rooster and His Barnyard Band for ages 5+; that book-based musical special introduces jazz through a longer story. Common Sense Media
Older children: an Africanfuturist adventure
Iwájú: speculative storytelling with a content caveat
Common Sense Media recommends this animated Africanfuturist adventure for ages 8+ and flags some scares and violence. It may suit a child who wants a more intense, imaginative story, but age guidance is not a guarantee that every child will be comfortable with its content. Preview it first if your child is sensitive to frightening scenes or violence. Common Sense Media

Choose shows that make room for many kinds of Black childhood
Representation is not limited to stories about racism, struggle, or exceptional achievement. Black characters can be funny, curious, messy, kind, imaginative, brave, and ordinary; they can be central to stories about family life, music, learning, or adventure. PBS KIDS for Parents encourages caregivers to notice whether Black children appear in varied settings, have full emotional lives, and are more than sidekicks, comic relief, victims, or the focus of a one-time lesson. It also cautions that stories of extraordinary achievement can feel limiting if they imply that Black people matter only when exceptional. PBS KIDS for Parents
- Where do the Black characters live, and how do they feel about home?
- Do they get to be funny, curious, imperfect, kind, and imaginative?
- Are they part of the story in their own right, rather than only supporting someone else or delivering a lesson?
These questions can help you talk about what your child notices without asking one program to represent every Black child or family.

Check viewing access in your region
PBS KIDS for Parents says PBS KIDS programming is available through PBS stations, pbskids.org, and apps; it also says clips and full episodes are free on Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, and Chromecast. That general service information does not mean every title is currently available on every service or through every local station. Netflix’s announcement describes Bookmarks launch outlets, while Common Sense Media’s service listings are a snapshot. Check the title itself and your country’s catalog before planning a watch. An optional book to continue the conversation off-screen
If you want a related activity away from the screen, PBS KIDS for Parents names I Love My Hair, written by Natasha Anastasia Tarpley and illustrated by E.B. Lewis, as a children’s book companion.
