May 2025 brought a varied U.S.-oriented streaming slate: new dramas and comedies alongside returning mysteries, reality shows and familiar franchises. These picks are a curated guide—not a measured ranking—so choose by genre, premise and whether you want a fresh start or a returning season. The dates below are the shows’ scheduled May 2025 premieres; they do not confirm that a title remains available today or is offered in every country.
New series to start in May 2025
These titles began as new series in May, with options ranging from romance and period crime to science-fiction comedy and college life.
Forever — Netflix, May 8
This new coming-of-age romance reimagines Judy Blume’s 1975 novel. Netflix describes the story as following two Black teenagers exploring romance and identity in Los Angeles in 2018. Mara Brock Akil created the series, which stars Lovie Simone and Michael Cooper Jr. It is a natural pick for viewers seeking contemporary young-adult romance or an adaptation with a specific literary source. Netflix Tudum’s 2025 title guide provides the series details. Blume’s Forever is the source novel, not a companion product unrelated to the adaptation.
Duster — Max, May 15
For period crime, Duster is set in 1972 and follows a getaway driver, played by Josh Holloway, who teams up with an FBI agent, played by Rachel Hilson, against a crime syndicate. J.J. Abrams is a producer. TV Guide’s May 2025 guide describes the premise and cast.

Choose by genre, not by a supposed ranking
There is no comparable audience measurement or ranking in the cited schedules that establishes one of these as May’s most-watched or objectively best show. The useful distinction is what kind of viewing you want:
- Young-adult romance: Forever.
- Period crime: Duster.
- Science-fiction comedy: Murderbot.
- Thriller about estranged sisters: The Better Sister.
- Recurring murder mystery: Poker Face, season 2.
- Reality television: The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, season 2.
- Animated anthology: Love, Death & Robots, volume 4.
May’s schedule was described as relatively light on high-profile premieres compared with the previous month, an editorial assessment rather than an industry statistic. Even so, the range makes it possible to pick between a new premise and a returning favorite without treating the list as a data-backed countdown. TV Guide’s roundup is the source for that assessment.
How to read the dates and streaming services
The listed dates describe the U.S.-oriented May 2025 schedule assembled from TV Guide, Hulu’s press schedule, Amazon’s announcement and Netflix’s title guide. They are historical premiere dates, not a guarantee of present-day catalog availability. Streaming catalogs can vary by country and change over time, so check the relevant service in your region before planning to watch. The schedules cited here do not establish a release pattern for every show; Amazon specifically said Good Boy would release weekly, but that title is not part of this selection. Do not assume other shows arrived all at once or weekly without a title-specific confirmation. See Hulu’s May schedule, Amazon’s announcement, and Boston.com’s May 2025 streaming roundup for additional schedule context.
