In 2025, internet culture moved between formats: edited images, reused audio, schoolyard catchphrases, celebrity footage, films and collectibles. These are some of the year’s most memorable moments—not a definitive ranking. Year-end roundups from ITV, Google and YouTube spotlight different selections, and none measures every viral moment on one shared scale.
Memes and audio that turned mishaps into a joke
“Nothing beats a Jet2 holiday”
A sunny Jet2holidays advert voiceover, paired with Jess Glynne’s “Hold My Hand,” became an ironic soundtrack for clips of chaotic or disappointing holidays. The joke was the contrast between the advert’s cheery promise and what was actually happening on screen. “Baby” JD Vance edits
Edited images exaggerated the features of U.S. Vice President JD Vance and circulated as a visual meme. The format’s appeal was immediate: the altered face itself delivered the joke, without needing a complicated setup. ITV
Catchphrases that left the feed
“Six-seven”
Children repeated “six-seven” with an up-and-down, palms-up gesture. In this use, the phrase did not need a stable meaning; repeating it and performing the gesture were the point. ITV links its likely origin to a Skrilla song, but describes that origin cautiously. The trend showed how a phrase can become a social ritual at school as well as a sound or clip online. ITV

“Chicken jockey”
A shout from A Minecraft Movie prompted exuberant audience reactions in cinemas, which then became part of the moment’s online life. It was a reminder that a viral trend can be participatory in a physical venue, not just something people watch and share on a screen. ITV describes the reactions but does not quantify the trend. ITV
A concert clip that became a public spectacle
The Coldplay kiss-cam
On July 16, at a Boston Coldplay concert, a screen showed Astronomer executive Andy Byron and colleague Kristin Cabot. Their attempts to hide turned the brief kiss-cam appearance into a widely circulated clip. Singer Chris Martin reacted live: “Either they’re having an affair, or they’re just very shy.” That was his onstage comment, not verification of anyone’s relationship. ITV also reported that Cabot later said she and her partner were separated at the time and that she received abuse after the clip spread. The episode is best remembered as a viral public moment, not an invitation to speculate about the people involved. ITV

Katy Perry’s Blue Origin flight
Perry’s brief Blue Origin flight in April drew sharply divided online reactions, from amusement to criticism. It was less a repeatable meme format than a celebrity event with a social-media afterlife: the flight itself supplied the spectacle, and the responses became part of the story. ITV
Labubu
Google included Labubus among the cultural trends highlighted in its 2025 Year in Search film. That makes Labubu a platform-curated highlight, not a measured global ranking. It also had a tangible counterpart: POP MART’s catalog documents Labubu plush products, including pendant-style plush. This is evidence of the product category, not a guarantee of current stock or retailer authenticity.

KPop Demon Hunters
Google also selected KPop Demon Hunters for its Year in Search cultural-trends film. The inclusion shows that the title was part of Google’s chosen retrospective; it does not establish a rank, view count or universal measure of popularity. Google’s Year in Search 2025
What platform trend lists can—and can’t—tell you
YouTube’s December 2025 trends summary named Roblox user-created games and Italian Brainrot among topics trending on its platform. That is useful evidence of what YouTube chose to highlight, not proof these were the internet’s biggest trends overall. - They do not share one popularity score. A reported viral clip, a platform’s selected highlight and a network traffic statistic answer different questions.
