The best international thriller shows on Netflix depend on the kind of suspense you want: a layered investigation, a spy conspiracy, a heist, or a revenge story. This is a curated watchlist, not a universal ranking. Here, “foreign” means international productions or series primarily in a language other than English; each pick is labeled by country and language so you can decide what fits. Netflix uses categories including “International TV Shows,” “K-Dramas” and “Spanish-Language TV Shows,” but those labels—and the titles in its catalog—vary by region.
How to choose an international thriller on Netflix
Start with the suspense mechanism. A police investigation usually puts clues and character dynamics at the center; espionage adds secret identities and political stakes; heist stories build tension around a plan; and nonlinear mysteries ask you to piece together events across timelines. The picks below are grouped by viewing mood rather than ranked by an objective measure: Netflix’s genre pages show what it catalogs, not which shows are independently judged to be the best.
The pace and intensity descriptions are viewing guidance, not formal ratings. Episode counts are included only where the cited Netflix material gives them. Catalog listings can differ between Netflix storefronts, so search your own region before you settle on a show; compare the US thriller collection, Korean storefront and Spanish storefront as examples of regional pages, not a promise of availability in any particular country.
What are the best international crime dramas on Netflix?
Beyond Evil — South Korea, Korean
Choose Beyond Evil for a tense, character-led investigation that makes suspicion part of the drama. Two detectives in a small town pursue a serial killer while beginning to suspect one another and the people around them. Netflix Tudum describes it as a psychological thriller with a layered, twist-driven plot. Its slow-burn opening can feel deliberately disorienting, so it suits viewers willing to sit with uncertainty rather than expect an immediate, straightforward case-of-the-week rhythm. Stranger — South Korea, Korean
For a more cerebral crime story, Stranger pairs a prosecutor with a police officer investigating a suspicious death that leads toward institutional corruption. The appeal is the investigation and the uneasy partnership, rather than action-driven suspense. Netflix Tudum reports that the first season won three Baeksang Arts Awards: best screenplay, best actor and the grand prize in television. Those awards are useful context, not a universal quality ranking. Netflix Tudum’s guide.
A Killer Paradox — South Korea, Korean
A Killer Paradox is the pick for morally uncomfortable cat-and-mouse suspense: an accidental killer who becomes a vigilante is pursued by a detective. It shifts the usual crime-drama question from simply who committed a crime to how the pursuer and the person being pursued understand justice. Netflix Tudum includes it among its Korean drama recommendations. Netflix Tudum’s K-drama guide.

Which international spy thriller should I watch next?
Unfamiliar — Germany, German
Netflix Tudum describes Unfamiliar as a six-episode espionage thriller about married former German intelligence agents who run a safe house in Berlin. Their past compromises threaten their family, giving the series both spy-story stakes and a domestic pressure point. It is a good match if you want European espionage and a defined six-episode commitment rather than an open-ended procedural. Netflix Tudum’s series guide, published June 5, 2026.
Vagabond — South Korea, Korean
For faster-moving conspiracy action, Vagabond follows a stuntman investigating the plane crash that killed his nephew, working with an undercover intelligence agent. Netflix Tudum’s 2023 guide notes a cliffhanger ending. Because that guide’s statement that a second season had not been confirmed is dated, it should not be treated as a current renewal update; check the title’s current Netflix page and recent official announcements if continuation status matters to you. What if I want a heist thriller?
Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area — South Korea, Korean
This adaptation of the Spanish series La Casa de Papel builds a robbery around a newly built mint in a near-future Korean reunification setting. Choose it when you want a team heist with political alternate-history framing, rather than a conventional detective case. Netflix Tudum identifies it as a remake of the Spanish hit. Netflix Tudum’s guide.
Berlin and the Lady with an Ermine — Spain, Spanish
For Spanish-language crime suspense, this limited series in the Money Heist universe centers on a planned art theft in Seville. The premise makes it a heist-first choice, not a procedural thriller: the tension comes from the scheme and its execution. Netflix Tudum’s coverage of Spanish-language series provides the context for this title. Netflix Tudum’s Spanish-series guide, published May 22, 2026.

Which thriller is best for a slow-burn or nonlinear mystery?
The Frog — South Korea, Korean
The Frog interweaves two remote murder stories set in different decades. Netflix Tudum describes its eight episodes as a nonlinear slow-burn mystery, making it a fit for viewers who enjoy atmosphere and structure as much as solving a case. Its parallel timelines are part of the experience, so it is less suited to anyone looking for a simple, linear investigation. Netflix Tudum’s K-drama guide.
The Glory — South Korea, Korean
The Glory is a revenge drama with thriller momentum, rather than a straight police procedural or spy story. Pick it when you want suspense shaped by a long revenge plan and its consequences. Netflix Tudum includes it among its Korean drama recommendations. Netflix Tudum’s K-drama guide.

Are these Netflix thrillers available in my country?
Not necessarily. Netflix’s genre pages are storefront-specific and can surface different selections, so a title appearing in a US, Korean or Spanish collection does not establish that it is available everywhere. Search the exact title in the Netflix app or website for your region before planning a watch. Netflix’s Suspenseful TV Shows collection and its regional US thriller collection are discovery pages, not independent quality rankings or guarantees of local availability.
