The clearest documented editor favorite from New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2026 is a Sandy Liang look: a sweatsuit with pink frills cascading down the front and side, finished with fuzzy bunny heels. Who What Wear senior fashion and social editor Tara Gonzalez picked it from a collection she loved as a whole, calling the outfit utilitarian yet beautiful. It is one editor’s choice, not an official award or a consensus ranking.

What counted as New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2026?

The CFDA’s official schedule ran February 11–16, 2026. Its preliminary announcement described more than 60 runway shows and designer presentations. Vogue later counted 52 runway shows and 46 presentations, or 98 events in total; those are Vogue’s categories and count, not interchangeable labels for every schedule entry. Vogue also discussed off-calendar shows, including Marc Jacobs and Ralph Lauren, so coverage of the season can extend beyond the official dates.

The season had several notable schedule moments. The CFDA said Rachel Scott’s runway debut for Proenza Schouler would launch the American collections. Vogue also highlighted Scott’s Diotima show, Public School’s return after a six-year hiatus, and 15 new brands on the schedule. Those milestones give context to what designers showed at New York Fashion Week FW26, but they do not establish a ranking of collections.

The standout look: Sandy Liang’s frilled sweatsuit

Gonzalez’s pick, reported by Who What Wear, pairs a utilitarian sweatsuit with a distinctly whimsical finish: pink frills run down the front and side, and fuzzy bunny heels complete the styling. The contrast is the look’s appeal. The sweatsuit keeps the outfit grounded in casual sportswear, while the frills and novelty footwear push it toward playful runway spectacle.

Gonzalez said she loved the collection in its entirety and noted inspiration from Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette and Kiki’s Delivery Service. That is her editorial reading of the collection; no designer statement specifically explaining this individual look is established here. The useful distinction is between the visual impression and the documented attribution: the pink-frilled outfit is Gonzalez’s favorite, not a season-wide audience verdict.

How to read the season beyond one editor’s pick

There is no evidence-backed single scale for deciding the “best” NYFW looks. A useful comparison considers what is visible—silhouette, color, fabric, embellishment, layering, and footwear—alongside why an editor chose a look and whether it works primarily as runway spectacle or as a wearable styling idea.

The Associated Press gallery offers a broader visual record, with dated captions identifying runway images including Christian Siriano on February 12, Ralph Lauren on February 10, Michael Kors, and LaQuan Smith. Its captions are useful for identifying designers and dates, but they do not establish detailed design themes or editorial rankings.

A wearable New Yorker-inspired styling formula

For an outfit idea rather than an exact runway recreation, Who What Wear’s classic New Yorker formula is a wool coat, trousers, and pumps. The publication describes refreshed proportions such as a curved-shoulder car coat and high-vamp glove pumps. These are styling cues, not proof that those specific pieces appeared together in a named FW26 runway look or are currently available to buy.

Who What Wear also mentions an editor’s own Tibi layered sweater, sourced from Shopbop, as a personal fashion-week outfit. It is an adjacent street-style example, not a garment from a runway collection. Retail availability and exact runway-to-retail matches have not been established.

Why the February calendar remained important

Vogue quoted CFDA CEO Steven Kolb explaining the schedule adjustment: “Kolb says the Fall/Winter 2026 schedule changed to lighten the load on the Monday holiday, without such a long break between the New York and London shows, which organizers trialled last year.” He also defended keeping the shows in February: “New York needs February. The thing is, if the CFDA said we won’t do February fashion week, designers would still do shows and people would still come in. Designers depend on it, it’s important to them. It would be irresponsible for us to move away from February shows.” These are Kolb’s views on the calendar, not claims about which collections or looks were best.
